That's called toon shading. It's a 3D technique to make it look closer to 2D when displayed. It's still 3D though if anyone looks more closely at it. I don't understand why they don't use toon shading in anime more if they're going to use 3DCG anyways. Yeah it looks more obvious on a 2D background than it does on a 3D background, but it also looks more natural despite standing out.

I discovered cel shading from 3D Custom Girl which called it toon shading, and of which all the H-devs referred to it as toon shading, therefore it will always be toon shading as far as I'm concerned. The two terms are technically interchangeable.

Considering how the LWA 'game' turned out my hopes aren't exactly high. Even if it's a different studio it's not like the budget is going to so much bigger that it'll somehow work, and they'll probably blow it all on making sure that every single line from every single character is fully voiced again instead of developing a good game. Honestly, they might as well have just called the LWA game an 'interactive audio drama'.

I'd say /v/ circa 2013, but what we were actually asking for was a hack'n'slash. Fighting games can be a fun bit a cheap fanservice but they're not really worth playing for much other than that. At least something like Jojo ASB has a large cast of colorful characters to its credit. I can't see the point of making a game adaptation of a 5 year old anime that a mediocre reception in Japan and has been mostly forgotten in the west.

Low budget cash-in games can be fun, and even good. There were a ton of low budget cash-in games in 16 bit consoles and portable consoles up to the GBA that were good or even great.

I dunno where those types of games went. It's like companies lot the know-how of making games that are cheap but still serviceable.
