Well to be fair, the game is kinda like an FPSMMORPG. There are stats that you can allocate. The super powers come from people making broken builds or putting everything into one stat at the expense of others.

Stats are at least partially randomly given when creating the character, since Karen's annoying friend pointed out that she had high stats when she spawned. I heard about the pink PKer stacking agility, but I don't think it's ever mentioned at any point in the anime. Kind of an important thing to leave out when all it takes is one line to establish it. Also the idea that the salmon shorty is a glass cannon doesn't really fit what we've seen of her. The walking mountain M (so that's what the M stands for) has twice her max health, yet he's also more than twice her size and presumably has more balanced stats. Actually, they're probably stacked in favor of endurance etc. since he's carrying around very heavy stuff all the time, which should give a more defensive build. At 50 max health the rose racer has survived a sniper shot, yet we haven't seen anyone else actually be tanky enough to survive something they shouldn't (except the plot armor nutjob) and everyone else has died in a few shots. If one burst kills anyone regardless, the disadvantage of low health is essentially pointless. In addition to being P2W, GGO is horribly balanced. Make sure never to give them your money. I bet they spy on both your computer and you yourself in order to sell the data, too.

By now you should have realized that Pito is basically GGO top player with a shitload of near unique loot (her M107 is the only on the nip serv', the lightsaber, Kirito wins the literal lottery buys one and barely has any money left after which is the reason given why no-one uses those as backup melee weapons).
The scene before she gets shot she put on her gear (she was fighting barehanded until then) which includes a weird helmet.
The helmet is clearly an item that allows her to survive a lethal head-shot and sends her into a lethal bleed-out instead.

Which is why M was completely unaware of it despite being very close to her and having seemingly endless knowledge about the game. M is freaked because she is dying (and since she has a rigged a Nerve Gear, she's dying for real), if he had fucked up the timing even a little it wouldn't have worked.
M runs to heal her immediately, he isn't surprised that she's not instantly dead (as all people sniped with HS until now were), so it's perfectly logic to assume by his reaction he knows she has a chance to survive a shot like that if he's fast enough.
So yeah if you get a specific scene showing a char putting a helmet right before the same char surviving a head-shot, it's because of the helmet.
It's this new thing called foreshadowing or sometime called or "how to tell a story just by showing shit".

Have you ever played a video game in your life?
What can't you understand in "sends her into a lethal bleed-out instead".
The helmet isn't saving her, M quick reaction and healing is, the helmet is what gives him a chance to save her which is a pretty standard item/perk/extra property in games, especially modern FPS a-la-CoD. (and since it prevent an insta-death it gives her time to enjoy her death, which makes total sense in character since she want to experience dying. Getting sniped without even realizing and cut to black wouldn't exactly count as "experiencing").

I don't think you can do that in that game, I certainly don't remember anyone mentioning that, speaking of levels or xp or seeing a char spending points (maybe in Kirito season?), it's not really an RPG more a Destiny/Warframe game.

At the start I expected and hoped the whole Pitou thing would be a side plot. As has been said, Pitou just isn't that good of an antagonist and could get annoying. It seemed like what made her dangerous was how large crowds of enemy players would forget that they could shoot at her. Overall it wasn't that bad, and it was a whole lot more brutal than I would expect out of something with cute girls these days. Guess they get away with a lot more when it's just VR. I was actually disappointed to find out that Pitou really was the idol as everyone, including Karen, had figured out rather than the club owner. M turned out to really just stand for maso rather than manager as some thought, though it wasn't too far off. Guess it works for Manservant too, in the subs. Wouldn't have minded more of M being /k/.

I knew the final fight with Pito was going to be dumb as hell, and by God, did Shigusawa deliver. Getting her hands cut off with the hair ornament trench knife and tearing out Pito's jugular with her teeth would have been needlessly edgy in any other show, but they focused on it so little that it just felt zany.
Honestly, maybe I'm just psychotic, but I felt like the introduction of dismemberment as a plot point in SJ2 (it might have been around before, but it didn't come up anywhere near as much) was a huge source of the humour for me. It was so out of place and treated so mundanely that it was ridiculous. It started with 'holy shit, the grenade launcher loli got her legs blown off' and went downhill from there.

You don't need high stakes in fiction. In fact, many authors try to raise the stakes needlessly or pretend that they're higher than they are, and it just tends to turn off the viewers. I just thought the whole death game threat with Pitou was unnecessary. There was a competition already, and Karen's unwillingness to participate was odd to begin with so it felt like the entire situation was forced. Even if they wanted to make Karen enter it without really wanting to, they could have come up with all sorts of better reasons. Hell, just make her friend find out about Len and pester her to team up for the second jam.
If it's entertaining I will watch it regardless of what will happen if the main character loses. Not everything needs life or death stakes.

I have, got it because early reveals made it clear it was made by the Freedom Wars developers. It's a decent "RPG shooter"- a mix of twitch skills and character/gun stats- that works better than expected, but can easily be broken if you play with the stats right. Kirito and his crew don't really bother you at all after you get past the (really long) opening cutscenes. A few things to note:
>The special gun you get at the beginning of the game is basically a grappling hook and is mostly useless in combat, but there are switches and platforms you'll have to activate/reach with it, don't forget it exists
>Don't worry about getting locked into a certain stat build, you can create five different builds for free, which basically means five free stat resets (an actual respec item can be used too)
>If you want to unlock the true ending you will have to make friends with almost everyone, so start rotating your partner group immediately. I'd recommend looking this up to spare some affinity grind later
There isn't much realism in the game though- updating weapons is simply based on merging them- so no glorious /k/ details this time.

But he was alive in the game while LLEnn and Pito were fighting. Pito could've died at any time.

If there's ever a sequel it should just be this. Drop the whole SAO "oh noes someone is gonna die playing a GAME" and just enjoy the world for what it is- a chance to do fun crazy /k/ shit.

There probably weren't any NerveGear hijinks going on, Pito is nuts enough to promise to kill herself and go through with it the old-fashioned way afterwards.

I'm legit watching SAO for the first time because of this show, just so I can catch up on the universe before enjoying pink loli lesbians.

I didn't watch any of it beforehand and just knew that SAO was the big shitshow anime about how "if you die in the game you die in real life" shit, and that was more information than was necessary to enjoy pink gun bunny, especially since they explain enough of the concept in this show.

I wish I could be like you but I have autism so I have to watch things from the beginning.

Why the fuck would you watch a terrible show just to enjoy a mediocre one? This shit is SAO in name only. There's really no connection between the two except a few mentions that state it's the same universe.

>It would have probably been just as fun if it was a show about PKing cutie LLEN and her grenade launching sleazeball friend wrecking tryhard teams in the SJs.
That was what I wanted from the beginning.

You don't really have to, but if you want, just watch the first 12 episodes of the first season. After that it went to total shit. You don't even have to watch the GGO arc.

You'd be better off watching the Abridged version, it has a more coherent storyline and better characters despite being a fucking joke.

SAO abridged is the canon version of SAO in GGO 2, see:

I too am considering to give SAO a try now, after watching this show.
I tried the Abridged version before but it didn't really work for me. Maybe I'll enjoy that too after watching the original.
Also, I'll finally be able to shit on it.

SAO is very bland and Kirito basically has even less of a personality then try hard teenager from Abridged. The dub quality of the official dub is poor enough that there is no difference between Abridged and official work.
I didn't really start to enjoy abridged until about the point where the crafting joke happened anyways.

>it's not SAO I swear!
How can GGO fags be this dense? It's the same normalfag writing and especially the anime appeals to the same people; you can't even argue that while the novels have at least a few lewd LLENN illustrations, the anime had no fanservice of her, neither did any anime-related merchandise.

You know how GGO tries to explain the game and use the game mechanics for plot? SAO does none of that, it's just wasted potential after episode 1. The best part of SAO was GGO in season 2. By all means watch SAO, but don't expect much or you'll be disappointed.

Autist Prime must try everything before crafting the objectively perfect opinion. He is out there, somewhere, watching us, judging us. We are not worthy.
