I think APE doesn't know that they actually had sex. All they know is Kokoro had a book about making babies, and nothing more. The reason APE altered Kokoro and Mitsuru's memories was to keep them from ever having children and perpetuating the Human Race. It's obvious now that APE had no intention of being the caretakers of Humanity, they were merely using them to harvest magma energy. I doubt APE even though to test to see if Kokoro and Mitsuru had sex or if she was pregnant because they did not know if the two ever had sex, thus all that was needed was to alter their memories and make them obedient again.

And Franxx may not be immortal, but he's probably had his life extended a few times. As far as the rest of humanity goes we can assume that all the adult servants of APE are basically just people who have had their identities and emotions wiped clean. They simply serve their masters unerringly and never think about much else. And since they also did not know that Kokoro and Mitsuru actually had sex, why would they think to test for pregnancy. All they knew is that Kokoro and Mitsuru were getting married and not much else.

I do hate how the plot always starts happening in the second cours of Trigger shows, because they forgo all the things that made the first parts enjoyable in favor of escalating for the sake of escalating.

In Luluco they had this cool quirky copshow going on at first, which then becomes a journey to save the world from evil later on. Kill La Kill initial episodes were fun as hell with the overexaggerated display of class disparity in a small enclosed setting about a simple story for revenge, which is thrown to the wayside when they all gotta team up to beat evil alien cotton. Little Witch Academia was about comfy SoL episodes of a baka learning to practice magic, which of course involves saving the world near the end.

It worked in Inferno Cop and Ninja Slayer because they were batshit insane anyways, and it mostly worked in Gurren Lagann because the escalation curve was exponential which began from the start of the series, so it eased you in rather than presenting an abrupt shift halfway through. Darling is even worse for trying to do this shit right before the end.

I see Gurren Lagann as more 2 parts, Trigger seems to go far more for the less eventful story telling rather than Story telling that happens during events. A lot of flash backs and just filler nothing till another flashback happens where that flashback now moves the story forward.

With Kill le kill it was somewhat Ok because the flashbacks happen during the actual story moving forward.

I'd disagree with some of that. I think the case for Luluco and KLK was that they set up an initial premise which is fun but if you think about it doesn't really have enough depth to carry the show for its entire length, so they turn it into something bigger just as it starts overstaying its welcome. For Luluco it worked because it was a silly over-the-top show, and I think it also worked really well for KLK on a pure dumb fun level in how it constantly escalated the stakes. The LWA anime was pretty dumb with its second cour, though, and felt really tired and tacked on for the sake of having some kind of exciting conclusion.

Basically I think the formula works as long as they don't take the show too seriously and I think that's Trigger in general. All their fun shows are great but whenever they have an attempt at some kind of serious drama you get absolute turds like Kiznaiver and Franxx.

Here we got some cutaways to Papa talking with APE but everything was kept far too vague. All of this shit should have gone down by the end of the first cour. There's no way the alien invasion plot, the rivalry with the Nines, the stuff with Nana, and all the other loose plot and characters threads, are going to receive a satisfying conclusion. Does anyone even remember Hiro's original partner, Naomi? The last she was mentioned was episode 12. In the end she was just another nascent plothook that ultimately had to be cast aside in the name of bad pacing and shoddy storytelling.

I think the show was very lazy and cliche in killing him off. They should've kept him alive, always atoning for his sins. Character development is something that shouldn't be halted because of time allocation or to sacrifice so the bad guys look like a threat. Ideally character development should always be extended to the fullest, unless the character is meant to be a sacrifice from the very beginning, but that's not the case

I do but only in virtue of how badly the Kokoro-Mitsuru-Futoshi-Ikuno dynamics were written and showed since it fucked up the character development of all four. Mitsuru and Ikuno should have remained together, both helping each other to move away from Hiro/Ichigo, learning to rely and trust each other more until finally piloting in tune.

Kokoro should instead move away from her too accommodating behavior and trying to be always kind and nice to everyone, maybe a big fight with Futoshi in which she tells him about him being too dependent on her as partner or something else. This would have sparkled Futoshi's will to improve/change to be better, maybe after some alone time and failures, trying to learn to be less clingy, cold distance and then the climax of reunion/him saving her or something else.

A bit cliched an orthodox but in my opinion way too satisfying than the hamfisted drama they did.

The baby matter could also have been made by Miku and Zorome so to give them more development, especially considering Zorome early fixation on becoming adult and what it actually means like taking care of Miku, protecting her from the Nines, the dilemma of his loyalty to Papa and his loyalty to Miku as partner,etc.

The more i think the more it feels wasted potential or the fact they wanted the plot-twist,drama and to be ORIGINAL so much they fucked up the presentation.

Truly the best bro of all time

A problem with this show is that it's actually three series that have been at war with each other: a teen drama series, a dystopian series, and a sci-fi giant robot series. While these three elements could have meshed nicely to form a unified story, they didn't. Instead they've been fighting for screentime, with the robot combat vanishing for episodes at a time to accommodate the other two. I get the sense the writers had bitten off more than they could chew, there certainly was an attempt at unifying the drama and dystopian aspects with Kokoro and Mitsuru arc getting arrested, but then they got mindwiped and the can was just kicked further down the road to refocus on the giant robot aspects. The Princess and Virm were a mistake, piling new elements into an already overfull pan.

Absent them, the kids could have just rebelled against Papa, fought the Nines and APE's supermech, and ended the dystopia. The klaxosaur attacks and desertification could have been tied into whatever process it is by which humans become sterile, so by undoing dystopia they end both at once. This would have given more time for development of the other characters and their relationships. Like Zorome and Miku, who were my favorite couple from early on. But some character and relationship development had to be sacrificed on the altar of sudden lost civilizations and alien invasions. The writers unfortunately not realizing that more isn't always better.
