If the next episode is all drama I'll probably stop watching weekly until it ends and then marathon it. This show really suffers because it's clearly at its best when happy and the sad stuff is just a build up to release. But it drags on the drama. Same thing happened with episodes 1 through 4. Taking two episodes to give us the big moment in 4 was bad pacing. Now it's happening again. We've had sad 02 going on 4 episodes now. So at this point Ichigo will try pretty much anything to get Hiro to stay, and seeing as how romance is what is causing him to run off, why not try and use it as an incentive to make him stay? There is at least a logic to her methods, but I'm pretty sure it isn't going to turn out well for either of them.

But given this is episode 14, if it didn't happen as a consequence of episode 13, we're likely getting misery for the next 3-4 episodes at the least. It'll only get to to the big reunion probably around episode 20.

Then episode 15 can be misery and episode 16 the GC battle with them meeting each other again.

The issue is that when they go for drama they don't plan out properly where the releases get placed.

I don't think she was ever meant to be anything but a femme fatale. Fucking Nishigori stated this entire thing was a personal fantasy about being seduced by a bad girl.

The thing about 02 is that regardless of her motivations she had to have cared for Hiro on some level, he reminded her of her "original" darling.

She cared what he thought of her even after she was permanently assigned to him (which she didn't need to), she also seemed defensive of her position when he wasn't even around.

Perhaps most notably is that by episode 9, right before her saurification kicked back in, she was starting to demonstrate minimal interest in the rest of the cast. She went out of her way to help save Goro and had a brief exchange that could approach camaraderie with Ichigo.

Unless all this meant nothing and was just there because why the fuck not, and don't get me wrong with this shit writing we've seen in episode 14 that's very well possible, she can't have been faking everything. It'd make no sense.

Ultimately her goal was to get back to her Darling as a human. But on some level she came to enjoy her time with P13 because they, and especially Hiro, are actually decent human beings which no other pilots are. Hiro of course IS her Darling so that likely played a part on her behavior.

You're right to take exception to this. These contradictory developments are intended (maybe?) to represent an internal conflict in 002's character, which was triggered (maybe?) by the physical changes that developed around episode 10 or whatever. The meaning of this contradiction in her character, and of her changing attitude to MC, is just not clear, and probably won't be throughout the duration of this story. Was it all a lie? Did she change her mind about MC for some reason? We don't know. Are we supposed to not know? Will this be resolved later, or this just more sloppy writing? The suspense!

We can expect that at some point there will be a highly dramatic resolution between MC and 002. But that resolution will not have much depth or meaning to it. It will probably be shallow teeny drama, like so much of this show has been. Episode 13 will probably be the highpoint of the writing, and I just don't see there being the creative willpower being this anime to clean up the mess that's been made by this last series of jerky, unclear, and contrived developments. DitF is overrated shit that easily entertained plebs stew over for lack of intelligence, and for lack of better content from the industry. This is more or less all anime has to offer these days. I understand your frustration and disappointment. It's very easy to see ways where this could have been done much better.

It's not the individual character itself, it's the quality of writing behind it. Ichigo's recent function as NTR#2 Plot Staller is just one of many examples of craftless, lazy if not cynical writing. Episode 14, like you mentioned, is a good example of this. There's just case after case of out-out-character behaviors, moronic decisions, and convenient coincidences that work together to completely reverse and basically stall the resolution to the relatively nice and well developed reveal in episode 13. Very disappointing.

I think the Mitsuru subplot is one of the least offensive in the anime. These kids are supposed to have been drilled their entire lives about the importance of teamwork in their common profession. So to see that value reflected consistently and meaningfully in their relationships with one another would be nice. And just the general idea of Hiro developing a close camaraderie from hostility with a peer feels less kiddy and cliche, and definitely less banal, than most of the plot developments we've been getting. This subplot also provided the crucial function of developing and segueing to the reveal of Hiro's amnesia.
