I didn't know this got an animu. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Been reading through the mango and out of all of the shows this season this is the one I'm most interested in.

There isn't any QUALITY, is there?

Besides that the 2d animation is solid, the show will shine for its good story and it has a good soundtrack

Im optimistic, even if its not perfect the manga its good and after this finishes its gonna be a great read.

I didn't ask for this, the manga is perfect by itself. Unless it adds some side stories or something, I'll just skip it.

It depends on how far it goes with the changes. If they change it visually so that it's more better to watch animated but the characters, themes, and overall story are the same, then there's usually no reason to complain (though people will anyway, of course).

Which is weird since they had a cel-shaded wolf that looked so much better. Why didn't they use the same thing for the bear, I have no clue. The fur texture was so terrible. They had to be from two different studios or outsourced somewhere. Other than that, I enjoyed everything else and it looks promising.

They are a new studio. Kokkoku is their only credit and that also had its ups and downs. I'm writing the bear off as a learning experience and hope that the show and the studio is uphill from here, though we can still expect a few bumps along the way.

It was a good show, especially for a debut studio. It had a central underlying mystery which maintained interest and a character-driven plot which wrapped up nicely in the last episode. There were a couple of minor issues where things went a bit wack, and one episode which dealt with the villain's backstory was pretty underwhelming, but I enjoyed it.

It's just ok. It had the OP of the season too. The background art was nice, but animation-wise it wasn't anything to write home about.

Problem is that Geno Studio is new and inexperienced since they only produced one anime, and the reason why they decided to tackle an adaptation of a popular manga like Golden Kamuy despite not really having the skills was most likely to get their own name out there. Even though they clearly don't seem to have a good budget to make an adaptation worthy of GK, nor does the director seem to have any experience with more action-oriented anime.

I wonder, were Japanese soldiers back in the day allowed to keep their uniforms and arms, or did he just leave the army and basically stole those things?

Anyone expected Asirpa to speak with some kind of accent? Instead she sounds and speaks like all my other little anime girls. You'd think that the Ainu would have their own way of speech, especially consider they speak their own language in the manga. I've never heard an actual Ainu speak, but I can't imagine they would sound as 'Japanese' as Asirpa, even if she's a modern kind of girl.

Your left line is further from the eye than your right line. Horizontal alignment looks fine, but now that you mention it, the vertical alignment looks a bit off, like her left eye is lower down than her right eye.

I actually didn't read the manga yet because I wanted to hear Ainu speech in anime and the katakana would butcher it since I read raw.

But I realized obviously it doesn't matter now. You gotta realize that there are so little Ainu left and Japanese care so little about them most of them probably never heard Ainu language anyways.

Considering it's a whole different language instead of a dialect, the chances of finding a VA that can imitate Ainu accent or pronounce Ainu words correctly is impossible unlike VAs who can speak things like Satsuma dialect, Okinawan or Kansaiben natively.

Anyway, I dig the show. I wish all the Ainu stuff was easy to check but every google search just returns results for Golden Kamuy itself.

Ainu culture is probably what I'm most weeb for about Japan.

But Ainu ARE exotic, if they're awesome I think that's more up to your opinion.

Any culture that isn't your own comes off as exotic and interesting, that's just how things are. Also the anime doesn't really seem to portray it as awesome or anything, just goes about portraying it. You can argue the main girl's awesome, but that isn't necessarily down to her being an Ainu.

Also the Ainu are nothing like the Indians. They're more comparable to the Emishi/Jomon than anything else.

The series is a love letter to Taisho-era Hokkaido. That you interpret this as Noble Savage: The Manga/Anime tells me you are 1) a secondary and don't know that it's not exclusively Ainu-focused, or that 2) you put inordinate focus on the Ainu content because of personal biases. I really like those purple-blue outlines for all the backgrounds in this show. Really makes the picture colder and conveys the harshness of winter that much better. The CG, when done subtly like with the wolf, is actually quite alright. Really enjoying the show so far and will pick up the manga afterwards to read through all the small character bits that the anime glosses over.

I might be an absolute madman but I actually don't mind the CG wolf too much as it's not overly noticeable. The bear still baffles me, however.

I've never tried it, but it seems like it could work. I guess it's a way to to keep the front of the rifle more stable than with just your arm if you don't have a bipod. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be any benefit, and it just makes you a bigger, more conspicuous target than laying prone.

Most any combat rifle of the era was (still is) effective out to 1000m or more, and the Arisaka was no exception. Massive overkill for the average solider, but a skilled marksman could make use of some of that range, even without a fancy telescopic sight.

They only have one cour and unless they don't intend for the last thing to happen on screen to be Shiraishi getting kicked in the nuts again, they'll have to make some sacrifices. I'm not happy with this either, mind you.

Next episode is probably Tanigaki VS Ogata and the finale meeting Kiroranke and his revelation to Asirpa with a bit of dicking around inbetween.
