The episode itself was okay but it just looks so flat, like it sucked all of the style out of the manga. It's also basically a shot-for-shot remake of the manga, which it suffers for in the action scenes. Why is it so hard for anime adaptations to actually ADAPT the manga into a new medium?

It depends on how far it goes with the changes. If they change it visually so that it's more better to watch animated but the characters, themes, and overall story are the same, then there's usually no reason to complain (though people will anyway, of course).

It was a good show, especially for a debut studio. It had a central underlying mystery which maintained interest and a character-driven plot which wrapped up nicely in the last episode. There were a couple of minor issues where things went a bit wack, and one episode which dealt with the villain's backstory was pretty underwhelming, but I enjoyed it.

It's just ok. It had the OP of the season too. The background art was nice, but animation-wise it wasn't anything to write home about.
Problem is that Geno Studio is new and inexperienced since they only produced one anime, and the reason why they decided to tackle an adaptation of a popular manga like Golden Kamuy despite not really having the skills was most likely to get their own name out there. Even though they clearly don't seem to have a good budget to make an adaptation worthy of GK, nor does the director seem to have any experience with more action-oriented anime.

I think the animation and direction got even worse. Sure there weren't any huge awful looking cg bears, but everything from the OP to just normal dialogue scenes was filled with stilted and off looking animation. The characters eyes were totally lifeless and shots were lingered on for far too long. Its a real shame that the incompetent Kokkoku people picked this anime up, since the source material seems rather interesting.

Anyone expected Asirpa to speak with some kind of accent? Instead she sounds and speaks like all my other little anime girls. You'd think that the Ainu would have their own way of speech, especially consider they speak their own language in the manga. I've never heard an actual Ainu speak, but I can't imagine they would sound as 'Japanese' as Asirpa, even if she's a modern kind of girl.

I actually didn't read the manga yet because I wanted to hear Ainu speech in anime and the katakana would butcher it since I read raw.
But I realized obviously it doesn't matter now. You gotta realize that there are so little Ainu left and Japanese care so little about them most of them probably never heard Ainu language anyways.
Considering it's a whole different language instead of a dialect, the chances of finding a VA that can imitate Ainu accent or pronounce Ainu words correctly is impossible unlike VAs who can speak things like Satsuma dialect, Okinawan or Kansaiben natively.

Any culture that isn't your own comes off as exotic and interesting, that's just how things are. Also the anime doesn't really seem to portray it as awesome or anything, just goes about portraying it. You can argue the main girl's awesome, but that isn't necessarily down to her being an Ainu.
Also the Ainu are nothing like the Indians. They're more comparable to the Emishi/Jomon than anything else.

It's a decently comfortable shooting position in which you can sit for a good while that does not depend on the terrain so much. In a rocky terrain, for example, a long time spent prone gets painful eventually as your elbows get sore, your hands slowly go numb due to rocks pressing on your blood vessels and so on. Even with padding on your elbows, you soon start feeling the weight of the rifle pressing down on your joints. Meanwhile the sitting position divides the weight of the rifle better with less pressure on individual blood vessels an you can sit like that for a very long time.
Overall it's a pretty good position to shoot from with a rifle that doesn't kick like an elephant like the Type 30 and really good for hunting. It offers a wider range of fire and allows you to adjust your aim much better against a target that moves horizontally across your sector. It has an advantage in a frozen landscape due to preserving more of your body heat if you have to stay in the position for an extended period of time than if you were laying prone. There is much smaller chance to freeze your nuts off while laying down or to freeze to death later due to your clothes being drenched in water from the melting snow underneath you.
There's also what this anon says >>831504 There's plenty of terrain where dropping prone and swinging a rifle around is not a viable option - dense brush is one of them. Like in the picture above, a hellish jungle terrain like 'nam with all kinds of aids crawling the jungle is not great either, and not just because of bamboo surprises Charlie has dug in, and even if you can get prone without anything biting into your balls, there's lots of vegetation in the way. Sitting up gives a better vantage point in such a terrain.
TL;DR: It's legit for combat when you might need to get up quickly and go on the move again

>tfw bony ass genes so sitting on ass for long periods of time is painful
>tfw dry/rough elbow genes so can't lean on elbows when laying down without it getting painful
>tfw extra bones in wrists so leaning into my wrists is also painful
>tfw short legs so seiza for long periods is painful
>tfw no way to be comfy when doing things so I just stand all the time if I don't have a cushion or endure the pain

You sound like some El Goblino. Just get a trench mortar, you can operatie it from a standing or kneeling position just fine.

Why is the anime skipping so much of the manga?

That was insightful, Strelok-chan. Thank you.

They only have one cour and unless they don't intend for the last thing to happen on screen to be Shiraishi getting kicked in the nuts again, they'll have to make some sacrifices. I'm not happy with this either, mind you.
Honestly, I'm not sure where this cour will end.
Next episode is probably Tanigaki VS Ogata and the finale meeting Kiroranke and his revelation to Asirpa with a bit of dicking around inbetween.
Wouldn't make much sense to start the "love hotel" mini-arc in the last episode.

This answers a surprising amount of questions in someone's life.

Looks like I've been off by a country mile. My next guess would be blasting through the hotel and Hijikata's hijinks at high noon for the remaining two episodes.

No friend. If you're ever asked to get a GRAD-P then you need to have that reaction. Trench mortars are for long range games of lawn darts.

There still are gun stores in Japan, even in Tokyo.

>There are still gun stores in Japan, even in Tokyo
<There are still gun stores in Mexico, even in Mexico City
<Nevermind you can only legally buy guns & ammo from that one store in the entirety of Mexico and under equally strict gun laws
This is what you sound like right now.
Pretty sure the Jap on /k/ explained how it practically takes about 3-7 years to get a gun if you're not a police officer or military personnel and are over 30 (closer to 12 years if under 30), and they'll still take it away from you at the slightest provocation (being rude to your neighbors is probably cause to take away your gun). In order to buy one in Japan you have to take...
>A written test, only offered on certain dates
>A psychiatric evaulation
>A drug test
>A "criminal" background check
>A gun skills competency test
(This last one takes the longest usually since you have to prove you can shoot a gun in order to legally shoot a gun- Nips have to go overseas to Hawaii to a shooting range repeatedly to get experience shooting in order to come back to Japan and have a chance at passing this one, so they need a passport and can only go twice a year to practice shooting.)
And then when you pass all of that you can only purchase a Shotgun or an Air Rifle, and even that has to be kept under lock and key Switzerland-style & can only be taken out for hunting purposes. I'm pretty sure you actually need a separate license where you go through the exact same process in order to purchase ammunition to use with your firearm.
