Your seasonal dose of generic romcom has arrived

Looks like the first decent show this season, but not much beyond just decent.
Hardly any of the characters are likable, and it feels completely generic.

Pandora's Actor doesn't deserve such abuse.
No.811442
Fairly generic, but that isn't necessarily a major problem for a romance.
There's obviously going to be some kind of drama over her being royalty/the daughter of a wealthy family/etc. Hopefully it will be done in a way that isn't annoying.
I was a bit worried that her travelling companion would be revealed as a love rival so I'm glad at least that's not the case.
I'll keep watching for now.

Same, I've seen plenty romcons lately and this feel pretty generic to bother.
No.811535
Seems to be an extremely generic appeal to western audiences. I could be wrong but it seems like some anime and mango are inserting western characters in their stuff lately to give westerners someone to personally relate to. That or they feature western like settings outside of a fantasy context. Plus I hate both morganatic and race mixing relationships so its a double whammy of hatred for this show.
All that aside though it seems extremely generic. As in the only thing separating this from any other shitty shoujo romcom is the race mixing and royal peasant angle.
The art style looked like it had decent direction until they fucked it all up by being too generic. It looks as though they were going to a reto 90's style but decided that was too dangerous and made it more modern. The result being an extremely generic look that also makes it feel low budget.

>it seems like some anime and mango are inserting western characters in their stuff lately to give westerners someone to personally relate to
They insert them because they want exotic characters, they want their blondes, and nips don't have blonde hair so any character with blonde hair will either be bleaching it or be a foreigner. This has been a thing for quite some time, it's definitely not a recent development.

There are tons of naturally Japanese blond characters. This is anime, there are girls with blue hair ect ect. I understand what you are saying though but its a trend lately. And by that I mean over the course of 2000-2010 there were probably about 10 (guesstimate) anime with foreign characters but there have been at least 15 in the past 8 years.
No.812721
As everyone else says, this show seems extremely generic. Such a generic romance show will thrive or fail on the strength of its characters. Main girl is cute and was pretty funny with her knowledge of Japan coming from some samurai TV show. However, the other characters were not particularly interesting. Sidekick man was especially annoying. I will probably give this another episode or two to see if it improves. Also, what is with Japan and cat balls?

Those numbers would be underestimating if they were multiplied by ten, as they are it's just blatantly untrue. Even if you limit it strictly to romance/harems, 100 and 150 would be closer to reality. Even if you limit it to blonde girls who are foreigners and main characters in harem/romance anime, 10 and 15 are underestimating it.

The first episode of this may have been generic and boring, but the second was surprisingly fun. I think I might like this. It's also pretty cute how they're already hinting at certain couples. Canola is a cultivar of rape. It was bred from other varieties of rape to exhibit certain properties. All canola is rape, but not all rape is canola. And yes, the name "canola" was coined as a marketing buzzword. Many cultivar names are.

I gotta say, when I started this anime an entire episode narrated by a cat was not what I was expecting. But I'm really glad I gave this show a chance. It's pretty fun, Teresa is really cute, and the MC isn't some anxiety riddled faggot. So far it's been quite enjoyable for a romance anime. The ED lyrics seriously concern me however.

I'm not but it is true. The concept of a trap has been around since Shakespeare. However the use of traps is in anime is more frequent then it was in the 80's. I'm not saying its a good or bad thing but its just a fact. The popularity of tropes change over time. Certain tropes that used to be frequent in old anime sometime rarely show up now and tropes (if you can even call it that) that used to be rare are now common. Thats just how things are in general. One isekai gets popular and hundreds are made in its place. One mecha anime gets popular and hundreds are made.
I personally dislike the development of this particular foreigner trope and think its a harbinger of shit. I very much hope i'm wrong.

For the vast majority of this show I've been thinking about how I'm gonna make a funny post when it ends, how it's so generic and soulless that an algorithm tasked with generating the most typical romance anime might've come up with it, but the ending was surprisingly interesting, if not particularly good.
The vast majority of the credit goes to Charles. His character's role in these kinds of stories is always to fuck shit up, and instead he basically delivered the opposite, he was a good guy the entire time and personally took it up on himself to deliver the happy ending. Though looking at it from another angle, he readily, literally cucked himself. He has Alex, but still. I was actually wondering if they'd turn around with an ultra-convenient "I was actually in love with Alex the entire time" ending, thank fuck they didn't quite go for that big a copout.
Ending, the last 10 minutes, were also kind of interesting. After the big confession both Tada and Teresa just decided to give up and get on with their lives, definitely not what you'd expect from a relatively light romcom. It was a much better scene than I was expecting. That is until they threw that idea into the trash and quickly squished a Happy Ever After into the last minute.

Would you be happy being married to Teresa knowing she was in love with someone else before you married her? Not marrying her seems like a better choice for him since she was never interested in him. If this wasn't 2D theres a good chance Teresa gets sick of Tada and leaves him. Charlies goes for her then. The execution of the happy ending seemed like a pansy writer who didn't want to write a duty triumphs over love ending.

That's the thing though, regardless of how either of them felt, they were supposed to get married. I don't know about throwing all your responsibilities for a fleeting teenage love. Charles probably did it mostly for Teresa's sake, not so much because he didn't want to marry someone who didn't love him.

This show was garbage. I liked at the start when it a harmless slice of life comedy. It fell apart completely once it tried to be a serious romantic drama as the writing was so bad and the characters so flat. I was extremely bored through the last couple of episodes and just wanted it to be over.
Pin-senpai was the only real highlight.
