Does Japan even really celebrate April Fools? It's like the one holiday I haven't seen represented in anime (probably because its a lame holiday). It has become so passe, that actually announcing something really coming out on April fools is preferable than doing a prank since everyone else expects that.

They do. Just in these couple of hours since it's been April 1st in Japan there's been a whole bunch of pranks. I don't think it gets represented in anime probably because it's not really that deep or meaningful, but going on the internet and doing something silly is relatively easy and a good way to do market research for something that would otherwise seem too over the top.
