I don't really have much to say at the moment, I hear the multiplayer still has problems like it did on the playstation.

Mah nigga! First game I actually bought in about 2 years. First game I bought the day it launched in about 5 years. The girls are cute, the writing is good, and the controls are **comfy*. Honestly, I'm not liking it quite as much as Megadimension after 5 hours but I feel like I owe the creators anyway cause I torrented Megadimension and Rebirth 1-3. I'm excited for the multiplayer but it's still too buggy to fuck with. I'm sure the patches that roll out over the next couple months will fix that ridiculously long loading time at the intro among other things.

Yeah, the initial load time and unskippable intros are annoying. Though once the game actually starts it's amazing what they did with it. The animations are so much better than in previous games and the world is really pretty as well. And of course the neps are cute.

The gameplay is good as well, even if your companions attacks can obscure the enemies attacks and make them hard to block.

Why is Rei such a bullyable character, it's almost as if she was built for bully.

Not counting the spinoffs there are 4 games right now with a 5th one coming soon.There is re;birth1 which is sort of like a parody of the first original game, this has no correlation to the actual story. There is re;birth 2 which is a remake of the second game and is where the real "plot" starts to form, just make sure to use the retranslation otherwise you will get memes in your translation that ruin the game. This can be found on >>/nep/. Next is re;birth 3 which is a remake of the third game, this is supposed to be a sequel to re;birth 2 but a lot of it doesn't add together, but you aren't going to be playing these games for the plot anyway, also make sure to use the retranslation since this one is also filled with memes in the translation. Next up is Megadimension V-II which is regarded as the best nep game in the franchise so far. After this Megadimension V-II-R is coming out in the West in the spring. There is also nep side-scroller coming out but it is going to be made in quebec so don't get your hopes up too high. Also remember to ALWAYS USE BUFFS!

Really though, hags like that are a rare treasure. While loli-only anons might complain about too many old characters, it's pretty rare to find one who's older than her early 20s and not a mother or a un-cute joke character.

You should start with re;birth 1 to get a feel for the games and if you like it then you should play re;birth 2. Re;birth 1 also has the best original translation out of all the nep games so far, since 2 and 3's translation change the entire text to be filled with memes. Also re;birth 1 does a good job at showing you who the characters are and giving them personalities, even if most of the characters go away in re;birth 2.

Sorry I'm a month late but it may be interesting to others. Anyway, Re;birth 1 is the best intro to the series and it's a generally light-hearted game. Re;birth 2 gets more serious (and flat-out hilariously grimdark if you get the conquest ending), and it's also harder so you'd want to be better versed in how the game plays, since it plays the same as the first and the series on the whole is bad at explaining key features.

If you get them, avoid using any DLC characters. They are generally imbalanced. For example in Re;birth 1, Plutia is basically your first three girls rolled into one, while the ones in Re;birth 3 tend to have very cheap special moves (Cave is top-tier). The majority are playable in other games in a more balanced fashion anyway.

Both Re;birth 2 and 3 have retranslations for PC and Vita. You want them. The first game's translation is adequate but 2 and 3 are NISA being NISA. Most of the spin-offs have crap translations too, thankfully most of those are not that great, only check them if you really end up loving the series. Also it should be said that Re;birth 1 and 2 are actually remakes. I've never played the originals but apparently they have atrocious gameplay.

The only game with different plot would be the first nep game, but from what I've seen and heard, the gameplay is so clanky and difficult to use and the dumb elements like items have an RNG for whether they work or not, males it so that only if you love neptune should you try to play it. It is a shame though since there were some good characters, but thatvwas about the only good part of the game.

Apparently the story part of it is better, yeah. Still, with the gameplay's reputation the remake is the best starting point. Also if you like that but not Re;birth 2 you may want to skip to 3. That also has a couple of small changes to the gameplay making it more balanced. Also best girls Rei and Plutia.

Oh right and while it should go without saying, Japanese voices only. The English cast is inferior to terrible. Unfortunately for Re;birth 3 Vita they're a separate 2GB download.
