Think about their respective personalities. 0ni is a fiery, more energetic girl who is more willing to make her personal desires apparent, shown in how she acts the way she wants. It's true that this is a common character trait of anime girls, but this is partially the fault of passive characters like Hiro.

If the male character won't initiate anything, then the female character needs to do it.

Even Ichigo while being much more passive than 002, is the active/aggressive person in the relationship between her and Hiro.

Personally I prefer 002 over Ichigo, because I think a relationship with 002 would be much more interesting and entertaining. It also helps that 002 has many of my favorite character traits.

I came here to post this almost word for word.

I came into the show wanting to like it, thinking it was alright at first and slowly liking it more and more with each episode but this episode sucked balls. At no point did I care what was going on or what anyone had to say. I actually found myself liking the characters less. We had very clear momentum and a well established tone and then we got this episode which basically put a hard brake on all of it. Episode 6's climax was not satisfying enough to justify a beach episode as an intermission between it and the next arc, we got dicked around with will they, won't they drama leading up to the question of whether or not the third sortie would actually do anything with Hiro's super-cancer going out of control and then ... nothing, literally nothing.

The Hiro/Ichigo love-triangle plot element is also boring me. It would have been much more interesting if they just had the pairings remain more or less set in stone and used each one to illustrate a different aspect or dynamic of male-female interrelationships, they're already geared towards this with each pair having very complimentary personality types. The way they keep juxtaposing Kokoro and Mitsuru also worries me. It feels like relationshit drama for the sake of relationshit drama and not the natural way these characters should be interacting with one another. Zorome might just squeeze himself into being my favorite character because he and Futoshi are the only ones that come off as being sincere.

Possibly dumb prediction time: I think Hiro is going to die in some way before episode 12, and 002 will be the main character of the second arc. 002 saying "We'll be together forever, won't we?" gave some fuel to this.

Episode 8 preview.

I wish this pointless Ichigo love triangle didn't exist, we could have had room for more mecha, more worldbuilding, and a healthy developed relationship by now with quality oni docking. Instead we get miss I-can't-express-my-feelings-so-I'll-just-be-upset-again decide she's going to keep trying in vain to be a third wheel with her beach declaration that the anime itself tried to stifle via fireworks. She will probably get someone killed on the next mission with her brilliant new strategy of Hiro shouldn't do anything because I'm worried about him getting into dangerous oni pants.

Ichigo needs to go away and stop bothering people, I hope she walks in on Hiro cumming inside 02. Hell, I hope Naomi comes back and joins them in a threeway while Ichigo cries outside.

What are the writers of this show even doing? Do they think because they have two cours with of episodes that this means they need to draw our one cour with of story across them? This episode was a whole lot of nothing. Generic lame antics, what looked like it could have been an interesting mystery with that forbidden door but turned out to be something absolutely banal. Like there was another squad here and they must have died. Didn't they mention something about squads being wiped out before? Like they didn't know this sort of thing happens. So much wasted animation, with only a few good scenes. Kokoro holding onto that book and her conversation with what's his name in the garden. Zorome and Miku's interactions were pretty cute. Most everything else was unnecessary, especially after that beach episode. Just get on with the plot already, don't be afraid of finishing it early, or whatever seems to motivated writers of these longer series to pad out the plot.
