Oniichans, oneesans, imoutos, these are common character types. But not otoutos. Why do little bros get relatively little love in anime?

 No.798363

What market could otoutos fill?

Straight men and gay girls don't like boys

Straight girls and gay men prefer bishounen or bara.

 No.798364

If you have an oneesan there has to be an otouto.

You know there's like a billion trap doujins filled with otoutos right?

Is an imouto incapable of having an oneesan?

Otoutos are just an inferior version of imoutos.

Submissive people and normalfags will always be attracted to the older characters, while imoutos have the 'young and cute' market cornered.

Also I think a higher percentage of women are submissive than men, so there's an inherent bias towards submissive female characters.

Gross.

I don't even want young cute otoutos or big sis/little bro relationships. It seems like the big bro/little bro relationship is barely explored. Having 3D younger brothers is awesome and very few shows get the love/rivalry right. You don't really take care of your little brother and they don't really take care of you like brothers and sisters do for each other. You fight together and make up for each others' weaknesses. Gurren Lagaan, Full Metal Alchemist, and Space Brothers got it right. These are all high-profile animes yet it's still not a common enough trope to have it's own tvtropes page.

The general status quo with my brothers was one of annoyance and hatred, and not in a playful or friendly way. There are some occasions where we share a mutual hatred or temporary mutual interest, but it doesn't last.

 No.799170

Japanese men don't think little bros are cute enough.

 No.799241

Otoutos are best when the older sister is compassionate and wants to be the best sister for her future husb- I mean little bro.
