I personally enjoyed the slow paced first three volumes, the prospect of a simple slice of life with a jot of Asano's usual melodrama seemed like it could work, but it all started to go steadily downhill once Futaba and the tranny were introduced. He started to get more in-your-face with the meta references until it became simply grotesque, chapter 49 being a prime example of it, I physically cringed with it.

I don't know if it's the translation or what but, buzzwords aside, it's starting to sound more and more like a greentext story made by some twat over here, and not a good one. I'm fairly sure it's his intention, but I don't know where he wants to go with it nor whether or not he even knows where he wants to go with it. I also feel like he's slowly warping Ontan's personality in I don't know which direction, which is a shame since she was one of the better characters.

If this is depression 2.0 like the one he went through with Punpun and he's doing catharsis through his work I'd understand it, but there's an aftertaste of ill intent and plain hypocrisy in these last few chapters which make it uncanny, plus he's doing fairly well at the moment, in fact, better than ever. Maybe he's finally lost his touch, maybe he's just simply out of ideas and recurring to the same old tricks without the novelty factor to make them more digestible, I'm probably just overthinking it.

I'll continue to read it just because I have nothing better to do, but all I'll get out of it is disappointment.

I've learned to do this with Asano since day one, I can agree with him to a certain degree but there are points where I draw the line and move on.

I just finished psyren, it was quite decent there are some power level jumps and stuff I wish went a little differently but I enjoyed it a lot. The stuff implied by a 'happy' moment in the end has a lot of horrifying implications even though the bridge scene half-implies that it only happened once. Final fight was a letdown though.

Yes. GUNNM is great. It's centered on a cyborg with amnesia finding out who she is, and soon enough the question about what it means to be human becomes the main theme of the series, because in that world of rather distant future it is a damn good question. Original series is grounded on the wasteland, Last Order heads out in space and Mars Chronicle, fittingly enough, is focused mostly on happenings on Mars, both present and past.

Just two things: the original series ending was written when the author fell seriously ill and quite literally feels like the scrawlings of a fever dream, also be warned that Last Order had editor meddling in it that artificially stretched it out with a tournament arc. None of this is a major problem when you're reading first time through, though - you really feel the tournament arc only on repeat reads (though I can't imagine how it felt like when reading it back when it was coming out every month).

Aside from that, strap in because you're in for some of the greatest and most brutal cyberpunk action you'll find. You're in for one hell of a ride of endless suffering, and then you can join me in anxiously anticipating a new release of Mars Chronicle every two weeks.

There's a single manhua that I really enjoy and that's "Blood and Steel". It has just the right mix of wuxia and more down to earth fights, like what you'd usually see in a samurai manga, for my taste.

The one thing I dislike is that the translation I read gives the one Japanese girl in the series a Chinese name. I guess that's how you read the kanji for her name in Chinese but it's obvious that she's supposed to be Japanese, so why translate it like that?

I just finished ibara no ou, apparently it has an anime I might check out as well. This manga was a mindfuck not for being confusing or even mysterious but just for having something inherently nonsensical as the lynchpin of the story.

It's a 6/10 but whatever expectations you have about where the story is going from the beginning you can just throw away for the most part, the complexity of the villains plan makes no sense, although at the same time it doesn't seem slapped together at the last minute it's like it was carefully planned out to be nonsense. The entire structure of this story is odd, once you see the whole picture the villain essentially organizes their own demise to accomplish almost nothing.

Does Mado have a tag higher than borderline H? I don't expect so but figured I'd ask, there's no way to list them that I could find. Naturally I was just checking that tag randomly and came across Okusama ga Seito Kaichou! which I only saw the odd WebM of, but the manga seems fun and lewd.

Overall I think I'm preferring manga format for this sort of stuff just for setting my own pace on lewd bits or easily skimming boring ones. Also most anime versions are low production value or have to tone the content down significantly.
