That's always been the case with Shonen Jump stuff. In latin America you could find Saint Seiya stuff being sold by street vendors in the subway and in farmer's markets. He just spent an entire year stretching an OVA-tier arc to the point where any impact or ideas he was juggling with lost any appeal and he cut the shit short. That whole arc could be written out of the story and nothing would suffer because of it. Now he's doing this babysitting crap which is turning into a really hamfisted attempt to both flesh out Camie and convince us that Bakugou can actually do hero stuff besides be a career prick. Nobody gives a shit because why should they when all they really want to see is Shiggy and company fuck everyone's shit up after two years of build.

If Hori needs to rest then he should rest until he gets his creative juices back to their previous levels so he can actually produce worthwhile material and not waste everybody's time with this Naruto filler tier bullshit. Wrong on 2 accounts:

1) Arcs that don't "advance the plot" are not bad. You need a break sometimes.

2) To claim that nothing vital happens (quirk removing serum, face-man getting his hand on it) is retarded.

You can argue that the arc had bits that were badly executed or focused too much on side characters we will never see again (or will we?), but that's about it.

In short, you are retarded.

Devolved from an anime where the protagonist dealt with new situations by learning new skills to a power level anime where the protagonist dealt with new situations by increasing his chakra.

Imagine the same manga but with less focus on gay drama, and instead of Naruto's response to new opponents being "I need to figure out how to use my fox chakra better" it was "I'll learn a new ability to counter my enemy's powers".

When things started it was fun because he was learning to climb trees, walk on water, use ninja tools, smart ways to use his shadow clones, but by the end of the series Naruto only really knows how to make clones, how to use the rasengan, and frog summon. All his other powers are just power ups (sage mode, fox mode or whatever the fuck that's called), and the final battle ends with him "holding hands" with Sasuke. Plenty of good shonen friendship stories out there do things much better than Naruto does.

Plus fillers, but I didn't even watch all of the anime, I watched some of it when I was a teen, but I mostly read the mango.

Sageru for off topic.

No, we're individuals. We are seperate individuals each capable of individual thought. That does not make us hypocrites in any way. It's like asking one person's opinion, then another person's opinion, then, because they're in the same building, calling them both insane, hypocritical, or brain damaged merely for not agreeing with each other. It is literally impossible for any human to operate at 100%. Even less so when we're dealing with movies/book/stories, since those are far more subjective.

Thus, any single series will - far a specific subset of fans - always degrade. And the longer it goes on the larger the group becomes.

In the end, the only way to stop degradation is to stop expanding the franchise.

He's been missing the deadlines frequently, and demonstrated he straight up can't keep up with the workload.

And you've ignored my point I was actually presenting, in that I think he should start doing what Oda does, ie "every fourth week, he doesn't update, to take a break."

The line about being fine with a quality hit is my personal opinion on the update infrequency.

And the results are pretty apparent, too, I might add.

I got into One Piece last year, so I'm not sure if Oda's had spells where he misses updates, but in the time I've been reading it, Hori's missed updating a bunch of times.

And in the time I've been reading One Piece, Oda's not missed an update.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, on Oda missing updates, but like, what's your major malfunction if you think that's such an absurd suggestion, in response to basically continual inability to live up to your promises?

It's not like we'd be getting less chapters, than we are, anyway. What with Hori missing so frequently, he might as well do it deliberately.

Critique has a scale of how "accurate" or objective it is. Some things - like grammar and pacing are more objective, others like "likeable character" to "interesting" are less so. The problem does not like in critique, but treating it as an absolute (my way is the ONLY way)

I really liked pic related theory that one anon posted forever ago, but the more I think about it the more trouble I have believing in it.

It's interesting how Deku's journey is mirrored by hero society based on their relations to All Might. Deku wants to be like his idol but he's constantly reminded that he doesn't have the physical fortitude to do so. Likewise, society in this universe has built itself around All Might, and now that their faith in heroes is being tested (VA uprising, Stain, Endeavor as the new #1) it's dawning that things won't be the same as the AM days anymore.

We know that Deku has the following things:

>the ability to empathize and influence people

>knowledge of hero/villain history thanks to years of studying them in his notebooks

>stubborn refusal to give up on anything despite the consequences

Now, you would think after multiple greivous injuries that broadcast the fact that continuing to punch everything like All Might will eventually make him a paraplegic Deku would realize that becoming the next symbol of peace the way Toshi did wouldn't work. You would figure he would realize this and instead use his knowledge and empathy to influence his friends and nurture them into becoming the next generation, but he doesn't. He just continues learning how to manipulate OfA so it fucks up his body at a much slower rate. He's following in AM's footsteps by solving all problems by punching them and nothing else. How can I entertain any theory of Deku changing hero society when he's literally doing the same things AM did?

It depends on where the story goes, Shoot Style was the first time we really see him striking out on his own, and deliberately diverging from All Might.

Considering his hero name has a similar meaning to the English term "loser," or the slang term of "scrub," by the very nature of his hero name Hori's going to have to have Deku diverge from All Might.

It's right there in the names, "can't do anything" and "can do everything" so maybe Deku ends up inspiring people through "defying fate" or something.

I don't really know where this'll go, however, and I'm pessimistic about it playing out positively if Hori remembers it at all.

At best I'm imagining him giving a speech to a crowd, and swaying the hearts of millions in the process, something shitty like that.

You know, like the bit Coby had before Akainu shot his shit down and was ready to fucking murder him.

Guy who wrote this here. First, before I get into your objections specifically, I'd like to say that the latest chapters on the theory of quirks getting stronger for ever generation as background lore, and how these kids are supposed to grow into their own identity of a generation lends credibility to my theory. Now

>>781459

I disagree. I think you constantly see how Deku is influencing everyone he meets(not just his generation, but even adults), and can clearly contrast that with how people think about All Might, and it has absolutely nothing to do with punching people. When All Might saves everyone, he saves the day without fail. Because people need to know they'll be okay. Because here is there. It's literally his catch phrase. He bears the burden of society to give them comfort.

When he saves Deku and Bakugo in the Origins arc, everybody says

>"Wow. He changed the fucking weather. Just what you'd expect of all might."

When he saves the kids in the Unforseen Simulation Joint Arc, everyone just thinks,

>"Holy shit thank god All Might is here to save me"

and says

>"Wow, he caused and earthquake and shot that guy through the roof, All Might you punch real gud."

Later in the manga when All Might fights AfO, everyone wants him to win, and everyone is helpless to assist him. When he retires, they make a big deal about how society is racked with uncertainty into multiple arcs.

Society sees him as a savior and the only thing keeping peace together. This was an untenable reality doomed to fall apart because it was built on one mortal man.

 No.781587

>>781586

2/?

Endeavor sees him as a peak to be overcome. He is a shitty person and his actions reverberate to make his son, the next generation, a shitty person until Deku fixes his attitude.

Bakugo sees him as the top of the world. The point he needs to reach. He is also a shitty person. It should be noted that Bakugo is a character who actually DOES try to be like All Might, doing everything on his own and hating others helping him with a burning passion, as his classmates like Deku and Kirishima slowly convince him otherwise and he becomes a better person.

Shigaraki thinks of All Might as what's stopping his new society from being possible. He's a shitty person.

Stain thinks All Might is so amazing that everyone else(EXCEPT Deku) is a fucking poser and needs to stop being heroes because they're disgracing the title. He is a shitty person.

Nighteye idolized All Might. Not only did exactly what Nighteye predicted(without his power) happen, that his legacy was not preserved and by pushing himself to the breaking point until he was forced into retirement he would irreparably damage the citizenry, he also made Nighteye afraid of using his powers, which has negatively effected his hero work and relationships with other people.

 No.781588

>>781587

With Deku it's different(but not JUST Deku, his whole generation, we'll get to that). This is perhaps something I did not explain well enough in the pic. It's not just about inspiring people, which I put too heavy an emphasis on, it's also about relying on others. That is a huge, substantial difference in now just how All Might and Deku are heroes, but also how they fight and are able to finish fights. His entire story and the first OP focus on his notebook, which comes up throughout the series. Deku knows gets to know people, Deku knows their powers, and using that and his desire to help them, he relies on them.

His entire story starts NOT by actually saving anyone at all. He didn't actually save Bakugo from the sludge. He helped All Might come to a realization so that HE could save Bakugo.

In the entrance exam Deku doesn't win by punching robots to solve his problem, to get points to pass the exam. Neither does Ochaco. No, he saves Ochaco, who in turn saves him. Because even at the expense of believing he was going to fail the exam by saving her, there was no way her wasn't going to repay her kindness and let her get hurt. She, in turn amazed, risks her own passing score and goes out of her way to save him, even though she herself was injured. SHE IS THE ONLY PERSON WHO DOES THIS, EVEN THOUGH THE THREAT IS CLEARLY GONE. Deku doesn't just save her from being injured, he literally helps her pass the exam by moving her to act. Which All Might promptly SPECIFICALLY commends him on spurring others to act in his invitation video to UA.

He relies on Froppy and Minoru to escape from the stranded ship simulation villains. He originally plans to combine Froppy and his powers to escape(relying on her in the process), but showing Minoru that he was afraid just like him and pushing on anyways inspired him to act and trap all the villains permanently with his grapes. He would have never been able to do that acting like All Might with a smile.

Just a couple of other examples from later in the series or we'd be here all day(besides the examples I gave in that picture):

>Relies on Todoroki to help him save Iida, whom he previously inspired in the last arc, and then ALSO Iida after he inspires him(and after Todoroki who he just inspired also stands with him and inspires Iida) to help them all save each other because Stain was too strong for them.

>Relies on Kirishima to save Bakugo and doesn't punch his way out of the problem because he can't

>He tells Eri that he'll save her, but he asks her to help him and inspires this little tortured girl with no hope to help him defeat a villain there was no way in hell he could have stood up to alone. In the exact same instance he makes Ocacho consider what she could be doing better and resolves herself to become stronger

Deku is different from All Might. He has grown in to a hero who is willing to do everything to save people, but explicitly and constantly acknowledges that as a strong character attribute that it's not enough by relying on others and propping them up to help him AND themselves. The story is constantly telling you that he can't be like All Might or that he'll end up just like him(his increasingly bad medical reports after overloading OfA compared with All Might's increasingly lowered time he's able to transform until he can't). He sees the path that's leading him down, and unlike the self-destruction of All Might, he changes things because it's necessary. He develops Shoot Style rather than becoming like All Might and breaking himself.

And this is the part where we get to the entire generation being like this and why we're seeing societal change- because it's not just him.

Take Kirishima as a prime example of this. Red Riot made Kirishima want to be a manly hero. But it wasn't Red Riot that actually made him a hero, or a better hero. It was Pinky. Pinky's act of bravery inspired him and he carried that with him even into this latest arc. It was a goal he set for himself to be like Pinky, and one day he would tell her so. Then there's Bakugo. When Kirishima doubts how he can get stronger or be a cool hero(something he expresses in his very first appearance), Bakugo reassures him and points out that the way he helped them as the horse in the Festival Arc was his strong suit and he thought it was really cool. Bakugo of all people, after Kirishima develops camaraderie with him(after himself saving Bakugo who had previously NEVER let anyone save him and hated it, and insisted he be like All Might). This leads him to discovering a whole new upgrade to his powers that lets him to gain respect from major villains and pros.

His seniors in highschool aren't like that either. We find out from Tamaki that both of them are only as strong as they are because they inspire one another and know everything will be okay when they're there.

 No.781589

>>781587

Oops, missed something there. Deku is the ONLY person we ever see who is inspired by All Might and actually turns out to be a good person on his own. But his Quirklessness is already your queue from the beginning of the story that this kid is ONE IN A MILLION. All Might inspires people to become great, or maybe "heroes", and he definitely shows off his greatness and heroics for the sake of others. But he doesn't inspire people to become GOOD or BETTER like Deku does. And it's exactly because Deku doesn't just rely on punching his problems away. He relies on other people.

Hell, Shoot Style and Full Cowl are both literally supposed to be symbolic of Deku getting out of that All Might mentality and being his own person after idolizing him for so long.

>>781613

Sure, but as >>781615 said, he avoided punching his problem and used his wits, quite simply because he couldn't and he knew that. All Might smiles when he's saving people to put them at ease that he'll take care of it. Deku's smile is different. It's definitely not, "He's so cool because he saves people with a smile."

If you actually read the picture you're posting, he's learning from Miro and Nighteye about controlling his empathy and coming to an understanding about moving on. It's not really the same thing. Deku has saved people with a smile on occasion, most notably in his fight with Todoroki and then in his exam against All Might saving Bakugo, but in both of those instances he was relishing the challenge(in the second example Bakugo is already knocked out and he's looking only at All Might). This goes back to the first thing All Might learns about Deku beyond his idolization of him in his first fight with Bakugo in the simulation when he says he wants to surpass Bakugo. "This is the first emotion I've seen from him other than 'I want to be a hero'." It's a defining characteristic to establish early on.

And as I said in my other replies, originally I put too much emphasis on how Deku interacts with the people he saves by empathizing with them and inspiring them. But it's more than that. He relies on others as well. I go over this here first and then in the second.

I doubt he's the traitor. He's either after Deku's quirk specifically, any quirk in itself, thinks Deku a spy/traitor, or is enamored with Deku's heroics and wants to be friends/figure out what makes him tick and is just awkward as fuck. Or he could just be a gay stalker (funny but seems weak). However, I can't help but think that:

1. He's quirkless (or some low level quirk like self-healing) and the belt is a device that shoots laser with his stomach pain being from the force generated by the laser hitting him in the abdomen (so shooting his laser is like getting punched in the abdomen - really had and repeatedly).

2. Due to this, he is constantly looking for and hoping for an upgrade or some way out of using it.

3. His room is next to Deku. He is aware of the odd manner in which Deku's power operates, has seen how similar it is to All Might's, has probably seen All Might around Deku, and recalls all the issues Deku seemed to have in mastering his power, like someone who got the full force of the quirk anew, similar to what he had to go through with the belt.

4. Saw the All Might vs AFO fight and thus saw a guy with multiple quirks and probably heard what happened to Ragdoll and how she lost her quirk so he may have some insight into AFO from that alone, let alone the rumors of his existence.

5. He assumes then that he can acquire a quirk or Deku's quirk (he may have overheard Deku, Baku, and All Might talking that one night when Deku and Baku fought.

He may also think Deku is a spy but that doesn't make much sense. In any case, I think we're going to get some wacky hijinks along with Deku wondering if Laser boy is the spy and after many misunderstandings, Deku finds out that Laser boy is quirkless (or may think that but may have some quirk that only activates on a given condition or something unremarkable). I'm just wondering if Laser boy is thinking about sucking Deku's dick now or not. He sure looks like it.

It would be a nice story of Aoyama being a quirkless who got in UA with that special belt. I think I've never seen it using that "power" without that belt. The dumb part is of course of how did he passed without having any check-ups whether he actually possesses a quirk. Later part is about him of why did he want to get in. And there comes of his belief in "equality" which he had.

He might be trying to prove that no matter the the status of a person (quirk or no quirk), he/she can achieve same amount of success (becoming a hero) aka the Batman trope. So he went into UA to prove that. And then Deku came into the picture. The reason of why Aoyama is interested in him (in which this chapter seems to show) could be about him discovering about Deku's true identity (a quirkless got a quirk). That of course would infuriates Aoyama's belief in "equality".

>A quirkless needed a borrowed quirk to become a hero? Ridiculous!

Now there comes the situation of what he decides to do with Deku.

6. He's actually a member of a secret society of heroes dedicated to preserving the OfA lineage. They might be a very small group of individuals that might include his family and a few others led by a central intelligent figure i.e. the Doom Patrol. They handle issues behind the curtain of everyday hero politics.

Aoyama saw All Might go down and pieced together that Deku is the new bearer of the world's most powerful quirk. The whole business with Chisaki now forced his hand because Deku is getting into pro-tier peril regularly now, and he knows Deku has a history of injuries that could make him a liability if a villain kills or captures him in the field.

Also, Aoyama's costume is knight armor and his quirk is light. What do those two aspects remind you of when thinking of secret orders?

There's often conflict between parents when attitudes like that arise and if it's not able to resolve itself healthily then it can lead into abuse.

The reason this redemption arc is starting off so fucking awfully is because his "redemption" is acting like his problem he was a distant workaholic father that wasn't there for his son, not a man realizing what a horrible sack of shit he's been. A much better character arc for Endeavor would be him going nuts because his attempts at besting All Might went so fucking poorly, ending with him going evil and Todoroki trashing him in a fight.

>>784568

Poor attempt faggot. Your sentence makes no sense and you don't have an example at all which shows how stupid this "redemption" is being approached. Why is a rank or status that is viewed upon by the outside public, the thing that tries to make him decide to be a better family man? You would think that as #2 or any highly noted hero, the need to mend his shit past and being a morally upstanding person would have already started happening and we would have gotten this kind of speech a while back. Why the shift from #2 to #1 makes the difference all of a sudden huge enough so that he realizes he was a dick? It all looks like endeavor finally got what he wanted and seen he dragged his own family through the dirt to get it only to see at the end of the day it wasn't necesary and is damage controlling with "I'm a good hero. See, how can I be a dick!?" when it's clear as day he is good at being a superhero but had to ruin his own family's life to do so; something that wouldn't look good as #1 hero. It all looks so self serving as it looks like he's trying to convince his family with a "I work hard at my job so I can be a good example for you" dad speech that everyone gets as a kid to try to remedy childhood trauma and partial spousal abuse; I'm not fucking convinced. Todoroki is right when he says "do whatever you want". It's Endeavor being self serving trying to pass off a speech for some brownie points from his son. Endeavor needs to actually have a personal family related reason to do better and not a "best hero ever" sticker label the public gives him to convince him to clean up his act.

The abuse Shoto's Mother received was so bad that it caused her to go insane, lose her shit, and upon seeing her own son, react violently believing he was her husband. The burn comes from Shoto get hit in the face by boiling hot water from his emotionally and mentally unstable Mother, not from Endeavor. Shoto clearly remembers when his Mom was sane and loving and had to see her end up permanently hospitalized because the abuse was that bad.

And it was a forced marriage arranged by Endeavor in the first place, and he only wanted her so he could have a kid with a strong quirk. So he's a psychotic, power hungry abuser who beat his wife that he married for selfish reasons, and his son who was only a toddler, so much that one of them went insane and the other disowned him.

Making Endeavor seem sympathetic after all of that is hard as fuck to do. Maybe if it was revealed that he knew that AFO was coming back and that villains were amassing power and that the world needed really strong heroes, we could sympathize with Endeavor being a shitty Dad and pushing his son too hard... But even then, he's still a violent wife beater, has a really petty rivalry with All Might just because he wanted to be more famous and popular, and it turns out he was doing all of this shit just for his own gain, not out of any greater desire to do good.

She is hospitalized as a sort of retirement home to keep her away from Shoto. He ultimately did case everything bad that happened and nobody is denying that but he didn't fucking go apeshit like a literal nigger as so many of you want to believe.

And I even saw a theory that he was actually trying to live up to All Might and failed so he raised Shoto the way he did to replace him not in the sense of overthrow him but replace him when he is gone. Many of the facts might be different since everything we know is from the perspective of Shoto and for all we know he could be assuming it was a quirk marriage.

Endeavor is very very misguided but he isn't malicious.

Everything bad of Endeavor we have seen is from the past. Everything in the actual current events in the manga shows Endeavor treating Shoto great. And now we get that he will be trying to have a better image for his sake and those around him and most importantly - he said he was proud of him. His wife probably snapped because she was used as a tool to create the "perfect hero to rival All Might".

 No.785239

>>785234

Yeah. Something about this path to "redemption" doesn't sit well with me.

It'd sit better if we had Shoto being an equally flawed person, he is Endeavor's son after all, and refusing to forgive him.

Now that would be interesting, having Endeavor genuinely realize the error of his ways, but still presenting it in a flawed manner where like, he tries to blame Todoroki for part of it too, and in doing so basically destroying a huge part of the foundation to Todoroki's identity. Because of Todoroki being unable to let go and move on, and the fact that he's not entirely wrong for clinging to it.

But no, where I see this going is that Todoroki eventually forgives him, and moves on.

This isn't like Bakugou, who's faults stem from arrogance, and the worst his parents do is give him chiding dope slaps, and potentially neglect him a bit.

The only word to describe what Endeavor did is "torment."

However, Hori could also make this incredible, and have someone smear Endeavor, by revealing what he did to his family, right as Endeavor's attempting to reconcile with said family.

There'd be a ton of potential there, like, the conflict with Todoroki having to choose between defending Endeavor, or joining in on the mob. Endeavor struggling with being damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, in regards to acknowledging it. The fact that the number 1 hero is now basically as far removed from All Might, as you could possibly be.

Tons of potential.

Which is why I still think we need to wait and see where this goes. Though I'm not hopeful.

Do you even follow the series? Because it doesn't matter what you consider as abusive or threatening, or whether or not Endeavor was justified or simply just acting the way he acts. The central plot point and major character element of Todoroki is that his Dad is a huge prick who drove his Mom insane, causing her to burn his face and then get checked into a mental hospital. Fuck your stupid subjective interpretation, that's the black and white ink on the page: Todoroki hates his Dad for being shitty and driving his Mom insane.

>>785281

There's no indication of that. All we know was that she was a loving and protective Mother to Shoto at first, but over the years dealing with Endeavor wore her down until she snapped. >>785284

No, Johan admitted to committing murder in the second or third episode, IIRC. For Endeavor to be like Johan, he would have to say to Shoto that he beat and terrorised his wife because he enjoyed it.

Anyway, that's beside the point. What we know is that Endeavor is a slightly violent man - yes, slightly. A bit of slapping isn't that horrific as to provoke the kind of psychotic breakdown his wife suffered, on its own.

And if he did worse, I would have expected Shoto to have flashed-back to such occasions by now, but we haven't.

> I would have expected Shoto to have flashed-back to such occasions by now, but we haven't.

He did. That was the flahback that was fucing show. We don't need 20 chapters of Endeavor beating his family. The story tells you enough to establish A) He's an abusive fuckand B) It was bad enough it drove his wife insane because she hated him that much. You literally supposed to take what's shown at face value, it's not a fucking murder mystery.

Beating his wife* and Shoto. The rest of the family didn't factor into the operation because they weren't being trained for greatness.

Really though, I think it was Endeavour's harsh nature and unloving attitude to her and the kids that broke his wife. Not a year's supply of super powered beatings. She was psychologically broken and couldn't hack it anymore. It's why she lashed out at the 'Endeavour' half of Shoto, she hated the sight of Endeavour and wanted to get rid of it.

I made a teacher cry, but being an obnoxious grade schooler doesn't cause people to go into permanent psychotic states. Endeavor didn't just rile up his wife, he broke her mentally to the point that she couldn't even love her child anymore. That's what we've been getting at for the past several hours.

Play death of the author all the you want. Pretend we don't know because it wasn't explicitly stated (only heavily implied and then backed with numerous examples to clarify throughout the story). But the final result is the same. Hori wanted the audience to know that Endeavor was such a shitty husband and Father that he mindbroke his wife and drove his son to hate him for close to a decade before he was ever able to partially redeem himself in Shoto's eyes.

For fuck's sake, the guy forced her to bare numerous children, not out of love for her or to start a family, but because he was trying to create a 'masterpiece' child with a combination of their quirks.
