Let's have a nice thread for Kaiji and Akagi, as well as Fukumoto's other works. What's your personal favourite? Also, why does everybody not like Zero's manga? Sure, I don't like it too much either, but I can't articulate a reason why, I just don't like it as much as Kaiji and Akagi.

Kaiji>Akagi>Zero

Fukumoto's top flaw is that he keeps cornering himself into writing mahjong games.

Kaiji had a great variety of games and situations that kept the series fresh, but in the end it too fell into the pit of blocky tiles and despair

Kaiji's mahjong arc was pretty enjoyable, and it was followed up by a completely different gamble not involving Kaiji too much and a unique poker game.

Doesn't Akagi end in a couple months? I caught up to the end of Washizu Mahjong when I heard it was finally over, but stopped again after that since I heard it was ending early next year.

Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa hands down

>>771823

FKMT has a terrible habit of making shit overstay their welcome. I'm quite literally skimming through scans of Kazuya Hen, because 90% of the pages are just about theoretical thoughts and the occasional three-way repetition of a concept. They're slow as molasses compared to the earlier chapters. Also, I absolutely dislike the direction he's driven all of his series, especially New Kurosawa.

>Akagi

Absolutely astounding, made me want to get into Mah Jong just to understand how crazy his plays were, but then he just kept prolonging the Washizu Mahjong arc so much that now Washizu's spin off is more interesting than whatever they were doing at the table, also the hell hallucination arc was absolutely retarded.

>Kaiji

Everything up to the Three Asian Stairway gamble was fantastic, then halfway through FKMT made wrong decisions upon wrong decisions, the worst of which was making the Japanese faggot go back on his word when they basically had victory already achieved, it doesn't even relate to all the stuff they've been through and it just set up the heroic sacrifice of Chang and Mario turning their lives into chips for Kaiji to use against Kazuya, also he ruined Kazuya's character by not giving him either the absurd luck of his father and removing the charisma he possessed. Could've at least made something cool with the fact that Kazuya now accepts that those three pieces of shit have experienced friendship in a way he never could.

>Kurosawa

One of the only mangas that made me cry bitterly, especially at the mannequin being smashed, has a great message about respecting those that are at the bottom of the food chain when they can be as honorable if not even more than the top dogs. Then he went and revived Kurosawa just to make him go into Three Stooges sketches and making him forget all of his hard learnt lessons to the point that it's not even the same genre of manga anymore.

There was also a way funny Tonegawa manga that really illustrates how much bullshit Teiai Corp. pulled behind the scenes. The only one I've yet to read and have really been meaning to is Ten.

I hope you're all ready for Balancing Beam: The Game.

Judging by how slowly I see releases of this pop up, I'm going to guess that he shares this sentiment and it's on the backburner for him while he tries to think of something to do with it. (It could just be the scanlators dragging their feet, though. I'm not really familiar with the release schedule.) I'm fine with the "comedic slice of life of the homeless" direction he's taking it but he really needs to deliver on gags better. I was really disappointed when they built up the being buried alive part which I expected to be a classic Kurosawa bit, and then it was one chapter long. And then the fossil fuel brothers part seems to drag on forever and still isn't finished, despite never really being that funny.

Why not just do a game for the entire show instead of just the balancing beam game.

There's a DS game of dubious quality that deals with the first arc. I've heard that the PS2 Akagi game though is pretty good if you're into regular mahjong.

>>775540

I just don't see it. The chapter about Kurosawa giving in to the two artists' demands and longing for touching their whole bodies was more in line with the tragicomedy of old Kurosawa. Him being the ambassador for two Americans though is just stretching it.

>Kaiji

My favorite by far, even being one of my favorite shows of all time.

>Akagi

Holds a special place in my heart for being an great show when I didn't even know how the fuck the Mahjong is played the entire time I watched the series.

Never read any of the other series though. However, All Outs is pretty similar to Akagi and is a fun watch if you like that style.
