Looks like they don't have the budget to do those weirdass transformations by hand, I think it would be better if it was character only CG like Nobunaga Concerto or Kemono friends. Switching back and forth from drawn to CG for people randomly makes it awkward. Even if CGI is shit, consistency is better than randomly fluctuating quality.
Otherwise this doesn't seem that bad, this season is either shit or good so far. Since this is average I don't think people will care much about it.

I liked this a lot, a very different kind of anime protagonist. They spend most of the episode making him out to be very sympathetic, really make you feel for the guy. Then a UFO randomly lands on him and someone else and they both (I guess) get magical alien weapon powers. A shame about the CGI, but it's actually watchable for me, just slightly above my bare minimum of adequacy.
About the punks beating up the hair dude, I've seen this portrayed in anime before, with packs of young guys going around beating up the homeless etc, but I wonder how common this really is in Japan.

>About the punks beating up the hair dude, I've seen this portrayed in anime before, with packs of young guys going around beating up the homeless etc, but I wonder how common this really is in Japan.
Its not. Japan is one of the safest places in the world with an incredibly low crime rate. This is just lazy writing, which can be seen in a lot of crappy anime. Elfen Lied springs to mind as an egregious example. Kids kill a dog because kids are evil. I really do not like it when writers do this.

The orphans thing in Elfen Lied I understand, mostly that orphans are messed up kids because they never had any love.
The gangs of kids I saw in these kinds of anime I asumed it was because japan is a fucking passive-aggressive culture and those gangs feel justified 'cleansing' society.
Still, it felt pretty good having the little shits dealt with their shitty behavior.
Also, I believe the gang of kids was inspired on a real gang who kidnapped a girl, raped her and beat her for days until they finally killed her and stuffed a concrete pipe with her and more cement to hide the body.
There was a doujin made about that.

It happened for real in the first post war born generation when the youth was pressured from the day they stepped into school to "be productive or die" while they could still see the effects of the war in the form of broken homeless men who lost everything during the war. The ones who were never good with education or couldn't handle the social pressure turned to beating up homeless people as an ego boost. I liked the way they introduced the protagonist and his plight. The CGI is a bit off-putting and sure the kids were a bit over the top but I think the core emotional value makes it promising going forward.
No.745920
I don't like it.
The CG is pretty bad but not as bad as others. If it was all done in 3DCG it wouldn't be as off-putting as mixing it with 2D.
The real issue is that it seems to be going for dramatic emotional stuff yet none of the characters act like humans. Everyone seems like a really simple one-dimensional caricature instead of an actual person. Even Hank Hill-san doesn't seem to have much of a personality, which can work in some stories but when nobody has any human traits it just comes across as a really shallow attempt at drama. The fact that the premise is kind of silly also feels at odds with that tone they're going for.
TO BE HERO is a goofy chink gag anime with a similar premise but still managed to create an emotional connection with the characters. It may be too early to judge this one like that but I'm really unimpressed so far.
No.745945
Does anyone else immediately judge shows based on how they handle the OP?
If the OP is literally the first thing to occur in the first episode, it's usually shit. Good shows don't even give you the OP until the second episode, and usually have a short scene before it. When the entire series opens with the OP, it's like they couldn't think of anything interesting to open with, which just bodes awful for the show as a whole and their writing/directing competency. Putting the OP front and center in ep 1 is like starting a novel with "once upon a time," something that should have been beaten out of people in school.
And it also sucks, the music in it isn't even a good example of its genre.

It's Sakurada (from GTO) level of shitty family, except in GTO it's over the top and clearly exaggerated for comedic purpose.
In this it's straight for it to be drama, I guess? But I don't care about any of the characters. I guess I should feel pity for the MC... but I don't since I can't relate to him given that I'm not a 50+ father of two who's mostly treated like shit... because he has spent the last 20 years being a pussy (well not being a pussy, he has no personality whatsoever)!

What really ticks me off is that they use it for important characters, even when they're not doing anything complex. (I think this episode was a little better about it but the first one did this excessively.) They don't even draw Hanako by hand, outside of like a couple static shots. Is it so hard to draw a dog? I think it poses the question more then being the purpose because The hyper advanced aliens, in an off-hand comment, confirmed that the soul and reincarnation exists and pass it off as nothing. The interesting part about that is most aliens in the series were especially cruel, prideful, conceited, and every last one was beaten by human ingenuity. I seriously feel they should have. If they had just ignored trying to draw by hand and spent more resources on the CGI, the show would probably be a lot more palatable. Instead they tried to add enough drawing to avoid the criticism that they were cheating, and ended up with characters that look flat when drawn, and reach the uncanny valley when in 3D.

I expect it when they do robot animations or something like a car, but there's times when it's completely inappropriate and could be easily drawn by hand. Most of these are just poor directing choices that don't take into account the limitations of the budget - they have static camera shots when things are changing perspective, which is complicated to draw and forces a 3D render to be used, rather than just reframing the shot along the axis of motion so that the shot is easy to draw and changes very little. Makes it look like it was directed for live action but that's clearly not the case. It really baffles me when they don't even need to use CGI for the shot but do it anyway. Those ones are unforgivable.

He said he was going to kill everyone in that thread. He's a man of his word. Also, don't say bad things about Shishigami's mom or he'll kill you.
This a probably what the mangaka thinks of his critics for that earlier shitting of gantz story mentioned in the previous episode. Represented by that first guy that was killed asking for his mother and begging for his life because he was only "trolling". Taking actions you wouldn't do in real life through your artwork just seems like a common thing that artist do these days.

Or well, like you said it would probably "aliens, I ain't gonna explain shit".
And about it being satisfying, the people he killed might be scum, but he has no right to complain after killing a kid by drowing him in the corpse of his father. But of course, all the otaku in the series are robots of some shit, so we don't have to feel sympathy I guess.

How are the people he killed scum? As they said Shishigami is the worst serial killer since the war times, he's a hypocrite that brutally killed many people's families including babies, and then sperged out when people shitposted about his own mom.
As the first troll said while dying: "Serves you right", if he didn't want his mom to sudoku he shouldn't have become a serial killer.

I don't see the hypocrisy, here. He would be hypocritical if he was expecting people to have sympathy and mercy for him, but that's not what he's expecting at all. He doesn't care about the people he doesn't know, that's been emphasized since the beginning. In his mind it's always "him vs. them" and this is no different.
For example, is it hypocritical that he tried to help his shut-in friend just because he killed people unrelated to his friend? No, it's not. Just because he doesn't care about the people he doesn't know, does not mean that he's not allowed to care about the people he does know.

While he didn't say it explicitly he was kinda showing it. He has no problem murdering families and saying "I murdered your mom and dad" to people but when his mom gets bullied he goes into a sperg rage and starts crying.
When he decided to kill the 2ch posters that was purely emotional, he might not expect sympathy but that doesn't mean he's not a narcissist who expects special treatment from the world.

Very interested in where this goes because realistically nothing stops Shishigami being able to casually hack in to nuclear warheads and activate them, so he could grab the world by the balls pretty easily...or just destroy it.

Something else i want to say as well. I think this is a good anime because of the story that it presents. The hero is not a actually hero. He's just some random old man who got super powers. He has every right and excuse to be a total jerk, and yet he decides to help others and do the right thing every chance he gets. And yet Hiro who has had a almost charmed life uses his powers for selfish gain and outright evil. This story is so perfect and well thought out in many ways.

It's his own damn fault for flying recklessly like that, did he really think no one would notice? Now they're going to die in a hail of bullets and he's going to go back into full rampage mode.

Not a likeness. They pretty much had Trump accepting a call just around the time he won the election. I think it was about 1 minute at the start of the episode.
They cut a lot of stuff toward the end. I think they did the best with what they could but I didn't like it. A lot of pacing problems all around. Some quality issues with the use of 3D but I've seen worse this year alone. I get the duality of choice when given a "gift" and what you do with it. I didn't particularly like Shishigami. Every time it seemed he would get an ounce of happiness to change, the police would rush on him. For good reason because he killed people but it was always jumpy in the manga and in the anime. I'm sure they didn't show any hints of someone telling the police where Shishigami was hiding and it happened just so they can jump to the action as much as possible.
In the anime and manga, it always felt like they didn't really acknowledge the robot aspect of Shishigami, even when it was happening in front of them and that it couldn't happen any other way. You would think spraying a ton of bullets into him and him not getting hurt or downed would tip people but they kept shooting or checking on his body. The people who take care of Ajin do a better job than the people in here.
The asteroid foreshadowing was made very obvious in the anime. In the manga it feels like it comes out of nowhere, mostly because not much happens in 1 chapter and you need about 4 to get where the story is going. Chapters were released bi-weekly so it was easy to forget foreshadowing that happened 10-20+ chapters ago. The manga was still ongoing up until it ended about 5 months ago.
Even though we've had a similar incident of missing when an asteroid was this close to hitting us (seems like a skull shaped asteroid is coming next year for us), my suspension of disbelief that people would ignore a life-threatening asteroid because a super powered killer was running around in Japan was a little unbelievable for me. I think the mangaka was trying to take a stab at social media with this but I don't think it works out. At least some people should be talking about the asteroid, as well as with the Shishigami Slaughters happening alongside it until one gets drowned out by the masses to make it believable.
I think the duality of choice could have worked better without Shishigami and with just Inuyashiki alone. He was more charismatic and his plots were better. Inuyashiki wouldn't go a stupid killing spree to feel alive but he could make some missteps that lead to evil happening without him knowing because he was careless with his powers. He would learn from his mistakes and understand how to use his powers better as he goes along. I feel that would have been a better story than what we got.

>my suspension of disbelief that people would ignore a life-threatening asteroid because a super powered killer was running around in Japan was a little unbelievable for me
For me it was fine, when it was announced that the asteroid was on approach I recall the immediate remark being 'well whatever America will handle it'. But then Trump comes in at the end and says no, they couldn't, which wasn't something anyone had even considered being a possibility. I think this was one of the more realistic parts of the series.

The sequence where he detonates was one of the relatively few well-executed parts of the show in my book.

This anime is fucking hilarious. Few episodes in and already an old man is flailing about knocking people flying and spinning, going shirtless giving the amazing image of a weak old man puttering about and also shooting lasers at everyone's eyes. Not to mention the fucking one piece scene "We are talking about one piece now" was just too good.
I dont think they intended this to be a comedy but if you dont go into this with a serious mindset the whole thing is fucking comical.

Been busy with other stuff lately and just got around to finishing up the series. I really wish they had a few more episodes it was incredibly rushed but i still think they did a pretty good job despite that. I didn't read the manga so i had no idea how it would end but i didn't think it would be like that. I figured it would end with Shishigami and Inuyashiki killing one another or Inuyashiki barely winning and then i forgot about the asteroid being a plot point but i figured it would probably be a group effort of Inuyashiki and a bunch of countries with him taking a bunch of nukes and bombs and blowing it the fuck up, not a dual suicide. I would have greatly preferred just a Shishigami suicide as a redemption and that be that.
I really do not care for the ending but i did enjoy the show as a whole. Also i would have liked it if any of times Shishigami was trying to do the right thing it would have stuck. I really wanted him to end up repenting (He kind of did but i wanted it to be another way). I'm not sure why but i found him very relateable and I don't really like the route it went I think any of my ideas or a dozen others i could think up would have been preferable.
All that said is the manga worth a read? Is it different enough to warrant my time?
Lastly, Pube head is best girl. FACT!

not an expert about japan, but by seeing anime and shit it's clear that laws work that way there, so they imagine it's the same all over the world.
