And finally, how can she form calm, coherent sentences when her whole fucking body is on fire. Everytime she opens her mouth, or even inhales, she's gonna burn her throat, lungs and trachea. This is the same setup as 'The Ring' where the "Curse" is really a mutated strain of Smallpox that is somehow transmitted to whoever watches the tape and the only cure is to make someone watch a copy which somehow tells the curse to not kill you via Tumor in the throat. It gets dumber in the books because after the first novel, the curse later can be spread through a journal. It's something about curses becoming memetic phenomenon that's cropped up a couple times in Japanese fiction.

Or they could've made it a biological virus that possesses a host and makes one the king, who then delivers the orders to the others via mail (snail or electronic), instead of laughably transforming from biological to digital. Since it's biological, it could've just killed people through cardiac arrest, stroke, internal bleeding, organ failure, etc. instead of these grandiose deaths. The seeming omniscience would be explained by witnesses to things also being infected and they snitch to the king unconsciously. You could easily write the plot around that, even if it is a bit hacky.
Or it could've been 100% a computer virus. A cutting-edge neural network AI programmed to study hypnosis gains sentience and goes rogue. It infects cell phones and kills people with hypnotic suggestion delivered through inaudible tones or messages while they sleep. The mystery is around where it is hosted, since it can't exist outside this special research computer.
Even the little stuff can be written around. Ria could've even had her lengthy monologue if she left a note behind before she caught on fire, and they could narrate it as they read. It's like nobody on this team tried. Writers, animators, 3DCG artists, producers, nobody. (Well, maybe the seiyuu tried.)
