I want to call this Chinese Zodiac Basilisk, but Battle Royale is a closer comparison, right? I got cuts in my body due to his edgy it, but looks like the enjoyable kind of edgy.

Another season, another Fate/Zero knockoff, but this one looks like it will be fun. The animation was nice, and the action scenes were well done. Too bad it was pretty predictable, who didn't think the cute boar imouto had been chosen, and the pig-bitch got rid of her somehow? Also showing the pig thinking through her plan guaranteed it was going to fail. If a plan gets explained beforehand it always fails, she should have realized this. The rabbit being a necromancer though, that was a nice twist I didn't see coming.

Now I'm wondering what Moneky's plan for no one having to die is, it's supposed to be even more certain to work than the wish, I hope the writers' have thought up something good. I'm sure it will wind up to have all been a hoax and monkey just tricking everyone

There are lots of questions here, like if Boar won last time, why didn't he wish to be immortal, and then just come back and mop everyone up again? Or can't you fight in this deathmatch more than once? He could have wished to rule the world or be a god, and then they wouldn't even be having this match. Unless there are limits to the wish? Why did that dude not care that his brother, the snake guy, was killed? Are they allowed to kill each other before the match started? Why did rabbit just stop at that one guy? Why would anyone trust him to stop, he obviously violated whatever temporary truce they had going on and was clearly insane. But I don't think we'll get answers to these questions. This is a ridiculous show, but one I'm enjoying so far.

I thought that Boar would be the main character. And in each passing episode she gets to accept her flaws, mistakes, that this entire game is the reason of her life being this. Then wants to end it all and wish for this tournament never to happen again.

But it now looks that this will be another battle royale. Possibly in each episode we get to see and know the character, its background and then see it die. Then the next episode introduces the next character and so on until the last one and then the series ends.

Better episode than past ones, but the drawing looked very sloppy at times. Didn't know that Horses turned into Lance Storm when they died.

Juuni Taisen has been disappointing. So far, the flashbacks telegraph who is going to die in order. The fights are cut sloppily, animated poorly or end too quickly to be satisfying. Episode 5 and 6 were prime examples of terrible pacing trying to balance between multiple "battles" and allowing flashback time. I don't mind if the fighters die ironically but at least do it right.

If I was one of the people within the world betting fortunes on this fight, I'd be calling this the lamest deathmatch ever. How many times are you going to pull off "underestimating your enemy" as a way to kill off fighters before it gets tiring? It only worked that first episode. Also, killing off Monkey at this point loses any thematic meaning to this deathmatch, if they were going for it. It was suppose to be shocking and carefully planned by sheep but it ends up being a dumb move storywise.

The only ones left are uninteresting until we get their backstory and they get offed soon after. Rat is looking like the obvious winner given that its also following the zodiac order backwards, and may probably pull a SAW where he'll appear in the background connected to all those flashbacks we saw before but rapidly cut and combined at the end in a "just as planned" way.

If it doesn't change things up, this is likely going to be the lamest survival deathmatch anime I've seen. I've seen worse but this seemed like it had some potential and wasted it all trying to be clever. Should have been more brutal, given to a studio that can do fights and given more time to the current battle we are suppose to be watching and not have flashbacks take up so much time. Flashbacks are suppose to supplement the character background and story but they shouldn't take away what is currently happening. The characters in the flashbacks are better characters than what we've gotten as they die to some stupid shit. Such a shame how anyone can mess up an okay idea of paper to this extent.

Even the non-CG parts were bad. Some serious QUALITY moments during Tora's flashback. There was a scene where she ran from some cover into more cover that looked like South Park animation.

This whole series is a mystery. It feels like it should end in 2 episodes but we know that won't be the case, but at the same time the budget is so low I wouldn't be surprised if they ran out and it did end in 2 episodes and whatever is left is epilogues made from a lot of talking over old scenes. But it's a Nision Isin novel so you'd think it would have had at least some budget to it, but it doesn't. I truly don't understand.

Me and a friend of mine are pretty big Nisiofags, and we were pretty excited about this, not having heard about it before. But even the both of us agreed that this is just boring boring garbage, there's practically zero redeeming things about it (some character designs are an exception) and I don't believe you can watch this for anything, even if you have your brain turned completely off. The animation past the first couple episodes is borderline QUALITY and the fights themselves are bottom of the barrel. There's zero flashiness or mindgaming involved, because losses boil down to 'm-masaka, you were much stronger than I thought you were!', character interactions are too weak for any of the female characters to be waifuable or for bros to be had, characters are just tossed to the wayside like trash, the series is padding itself out too hard with pace-breaking backstories with no emotional connection for a character we know we will soon die, and it feels like there's no point to it at all.

I hear Nisioisin wrote some of his novels in a week, which gives me the impression that he believes writing novels is so natural to him that he barely has to think about it at all, like he just understands how to make a story and doesn't really need to put a lot of effort into it because it's all automatic for him, but even if you do you're bound to drift off the road eventually and write garbage like this, which is not helped by the crappy adaptation. Really, what's the fucking point of anything happening here? There's too many unnecessary shit, which is a bit characteristic of Nisioisin and his endless dialogue scenes, but at least they have some kind of main plot thread if you take them away. Take the backstories and fights away from Juuni Taisen and you're only left with a single strand of pubic hair.

I read that Amazon is gonna release Juuni Taisen vs Juuni Taisen, where this group now fights against the Western Zodiac, including a girl boy Virgo and his rippling chest dressed as a maid, BDSM Scorpio, obligatory lion-mane Leo man and creepy Gemini Twins. I do hope it's better and that this group is more fleshed out, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've seen other sites praising this series, holy smokes. I can expect people going gaga for Rabbit because MUH PSYCHO CUTE HUSBANDO, and he's pretty ripped, but didn't expect anyone to call the series actually good or with good foreshadowing and flow. But if he were done properly he didn't need to be. He can only control whoever he kills, but he only had clean kills during the whole thing. he didn't have fucked up zombies with crippled arms or legs from the fights they had with him.

And his zombies also keep moving even if you cut them apart, except they move in a way that makes no sense. Why didn't Ox cut the zombies' muscles in a way that didn't allow for them to make a lever with their bones, thus stopping the zombie's movement completely? This would be a better way to do his power instead of floating thumbleweed torso throwing itself at people.

Me too, but I wouldn't mind Sheep or Tiger having some very minimal power that barely did anything. I like stuff like that.

I still stick by my original idea that the series should have focused on Rat and his struggles from the start and rabbit finding a graveyard and building a giant zombie army, and then as the episodes go on they build up the rest of the cast who starts forming teams to counteract Rabbit's zombie army and then start backstabbing and double crossing each other the second Rabbit falls. All while framing it as this kind of sherlock holmes-y type of story where rat has to come up with all sorts of optimal ideas and scenarios and exploring scenarios where different partnerships are made, backstories are explained.

It sure as shit would have been much better seeing the warriors in action with and against each other instead of seeing them being badasses against nameless mooks and then literal retards during the entire tournament.

God, that was disappointing. Not even a dignified way of cancelling or forgetting the Juuni Taisen, just a scared little dweeb bawling for the bad things to go away. Couldn't he open a path about getting indecisive on the wish itself? Why didn't he try his skill to check which wish would have the best outcome instead of moping around and complaining about the possible flaw it had? Why not open a path for "I want money" and see how far and happy that one wish makes him?

The thing that's pissing me off more and more is how he doesn't seem to even come from a Zodiac family or anything. How did they pick him? Why? There must be some obvious filter for getting into the tournament itself because it's full of capable killers and fighters, so how is it that a letargic dweeb even made it that far compared to a more combat-oriented Mouse?

This taking into account the big fish betting against each other for their favorite pick, so why would the organizers of spectators select this guy without combat ability, and that they don't even know about his secret skill?

Wow. I didn't want it to go there but this is how they ended it. A wish to forget about the Juuni Taisen. It fits with his character but you just wasted all the audiences and the Juuni Taisens lives for this. A better wish would have been to have that Juuni Taisen again without his participation and let whatever result happens occur without his manipulation involved.

I even held a sliver of hope that they'd redeem monkey at least by making her wish come true since they kept coming back to her being the "true" winner but this fucking show shits over logic. Also, like that little jab at an actual fight with Ox vs. the brothers in one path when the actual Juni fights we got were mostly quick deaths with no pay off. One of the biggest disappoints of 2017.

I think we can all agree that this show is wasted potential.

It doesn't help that dogs SoL seems a lot more interesting that the actual show.

This is open to an infinite number of prequels, sequels and spinoffs considering the taisen happens every 12 years and has happened for god knows how long and will keep happening for as long as whoever thinks about writing more of these things want them to (we could see prehistoric taisen, near future taisen, romance of the three kingdoms taisen, post apocalyptic taisen, and we could also see greek zodiac taisens).

Also another thought occurred to me, Rat thought about upgrading his ability from 100 to 1000 but realized that was a bad idea because he'd get a lot of bad results, so why not wish to upgrade his ability so a big percentage of his visions ended in a positive outcome for him? I suppose for rock paper scissors and other situations with a set amount of results he'd still win only 1/3 of the time, but for situations like a taisen or asking a girl out I'm sure there are more positive outcomes out there he could use.

I'm seriously thinking too much about this whole thing, maybe because I see too much wasted potential on it.
