When's it gonna be and what will it be? The last time we had a major jump in technology, believe it or not, was the phone. It went from landline to cellphone, and now we have a smartphone. Something we envisioned in futuristic movies actually became reality. The jump from landline to cellphone was 20 years ago, and the start of smartphones was 10 years ago. Let's not even just talk about phones. Look at cars, we're starting to scratch the surface of self-driving like the Tesla. I mean sure it's not flying but flying is unrealistic anyways. Then you have video games since the time they were created has seen improvement in graphics and capability over the decades.

So what do you see in say, 20 years with all these? We tried Google Glass, basically glasses that are a smartphone. It didn't take off because it was too expensive and had a low battery life. Will video games have ultra realistic graphics or perhaps we finally develop deep dive technology for VR? I think cars are more or less at their peak with Tesla. Unless they start making ones that turn into boats because that's more realistic than flying.

in 20 years from now I will tie a rock to a stick and stab you with it for the last scrap of toilet paper

In an economic sense I think continuing automation (especially with improving AI) is going to be the next big thing that impacts people.

In terms of a next big jump in actual technologically I think nanobots (for health among other things) or energy from an unlikely source that gives us practically unlimited energy.

I couldn't say what we'll get but we definitely need to revolutionize batteries. Would make electric cars viable, solar panels viable, drone deliveries to cut down on emissions viable, you name it. Its the common denominator in holding a lot of tech back that we need to prevent us from inadvertently turning earth into the next venus.

Thanks to corona virus panic, I fear that scenario is more like 20 days from now where I'm at.

As far as OPs question goes… Even though it was just 20 years off 20 years ago, I'll guess that biotech will be the next big game changer.

I like gif related, made sure to email it to myself so I can install to floppy disk later.

Where's it from? If it's just art, me sad cunt.

I think the next advancement's gonna be instant 3D printing like these fellas are developing.
