>JJ Abrams certainly didn't have any use for her besides striking non-gendered poses in marketing material and anything that could have come out of her character was subverted away by Rian Johnson's gonzo kino brilliant retardation.

she was literally memed as the new boba fett in tfa, and rian johnson turned her into kenny from south park. this is not fake, look it up. rian realized what a shit character she was and decided to make her exactly what she is, a big joke.

>to my knowledge there's still no explanation for her shiny armor (some fans have claimed that her armor is blasterproof but then why would she be the only person to wear it and not give the tech to every trooper?).

Even assuming it's some special prototype that hasn't entered mass production, it's still a bad story choice because it breaks up the uniformity of stormtroopers. Having them all in the same armor dehumanizes them, making them into implacable symbols of the Empire's might rather than people you can intimidate or bargain with. If the First Order starts giving troopers their own personal custom armor, even high-ranking ones, it makes them into individuals again, which ruins the effect.

>It was just a random concept art, to my knowledge there's still no explanation for her shiny armor

It was made out of the hull of one of Palpatine's space yachts. Its only value is being symbolic of the New Order that the First Order is supposed to worship. Kind of like if a neo-nazi made a messenger bag out of Erwin Rommel's tattered old uniform.

>they don't understand why Bobba Fett is iconic either. Fett is liked by the fans because he was cool and badass, not because George shoved the character in every scene and every merch possible.

I would not agree with that exactly. George by his own admission didn't get why Fett was so popular with the fans either but he really didn't give them much of a reason. Like what was supposed to happen for Phasma, it was basically the armor and posing. He had a few lines in ESB and got his shit kicked in easily by Luke in RotJ. It was all EU and side-story material that turned Fett into a Dark Horse superstar with Lucas' decision to just run with it because why not? Sells more toys.

Lucasfilm's mistake with Phasma has more been trying to tell us how cool she is and overbearingly meme her as Rule 63 Bob Fett while not only doing nothing to justify that notion but offering plenty that visually contradicts it. Fett's relative weakness in the movies could be attributed to him going up against a Jedi while he's still the only bounty hunter tough enough to prosecute a vendetta with Han Solo. Phasma is somebody we're just told is a badass with a past of high accomplishments but we only ever get to see her being punked and clowned on. The sequel era comic she was in portrayed her as a coward and a scoundrel. The story group's left hand and right hand don't know what they're doing and neither can find their asshole.

What if Qui-Gon survived Maul's attack? Either Obi-wan fell to him instead or they both survived, but Qui-Gon is the one to train Anakin regardless.

I feel that much of what set Anakin up to turn was Obi-wan's teaching method: he was orthodox, generally taking the word of the Council and his superiors at face value, only agreeing to train Anakin out of devotion to his dead Master than any genuine urge to. His frequent chastising of Anakin probably pushed him closer to the father figure that Palpatine represented. If Qui-Gon, who was decidedly less traditional and not afraid to go against the Council taught Anakin, I think there's a chance that he wouldn't have fallen. Qui-Gon would validate Anakin's frustrations with the Council's detachment, instead of alienating him. Anakin would rely on Qui-Gon's cousel and not Palpatine's. Ultimately, he would take a role similar to Luke's, destroying the Sith after Sidious finished the Grand Plan and restoring balance to the Force, the first of the new Jedi.

Thoughts? Other "parallel universe" theories?

Obi-Wan was only defeated because he willingly sacrificed himself.

the Emperor was defeated because he was busy attacking Luke with force lightning and got blind-sided.

I have a hard time believing that Anakin would've defeated both of them as easily as that ending shows, especially given his relative inexperience at the time.

Obi-Wan could not defeat Vader. His last-minute ascension wasn't indicative of martial prowess or power. At the end of the fight on Mustafar Obi-Wan defeats Anakin because Anakins judgement had been clouded by betrayal, loss and a host of other emotions. He was a legendary warrior even then; It is entirely possible that Anakin could have defeated Obi-Wan there, being that he was empowered by the dark side. It didn't happen that way, mind you, but to act as if it couldn't have been any different is silly. The Emperor is a different story, being that he was a wise and powerful monster of a man who demonstrated his capabilities on several occasions. A direct confrontation with him might be difficult or impossible to win. Treachery is how he died, that's how he died in that video and that's likely how he'd be killed any other way too. His master also died that way and so did his apprentice. Seems like that's just how it goes for Sith lords.

you make good points on Obi-Wan, and he could not have plausibly defeated Vader in IV. however, he was strong enough to hold his own for awhile.

as for the Emperor, he could be killed by treachery, but not that easily. I think he would sense an attack coming and avoid/block it. not saying he's invincible, but the way that video just brushes him aside is not believable.

Given the massive contradictions between the CGI Clone Wars movie and television show with the the rest of pre-disney Star Wars canon, is there any hope of reconciling that? What would you do if you ended up with the rights to the franchise, and had to resolve those differences between these parts of the EU without axing TCW? all Disney canon excluded obviously

>1. Empire Strikes Back

This took what was great about Star Wars and expanded the palette aesthetically and narratively, proving to be the most inspirational Star Wars film.

>2. Revenge of the Sith

George Lucas' best directed film in the Star Wars franchise is perhaps the pinnacle of the Star Wars saga.

>3. Return of the Jedi

Ewoks aside, the first half hour and last half hour contain some of the best Star Wars/Star Wars OT moments.

>4. The Last Jedi

Anything I say here will be memed on.

>5. Attack of the Clones

More ambitious than The Phantom Menace - it reaches high, has more failures and more successes.

>6. The Phantom Menace

The Phantom Menace establishes it's own era pretty well and as a first entry in a trilogy is more enthralling than A New Hope.

>7. A New Hope

Despite being iconic, the other installments for the larger part are better produced and directed, and that's a good thing :^)

>8. The Farce Awakens

The opening five minutes is pretty good. The light-saber fights are shot pretty well, but it's too much of a copypaste design of A New Hope aesthetic wise and beat wise. If the script was truly original and the film's locations were alien and new to the Star Wars franchise, JJ could have possibly directed a memorable entry to Star Wars.

>9. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Fails to add anything distinct to the Star Wars franchise, despite decent visuals it's largely doing things that were done before and not doing them any better. One good Vader scene and one shitty Vader scene with poor dialogue and audio. The film is largely a mess, Felicity Jones can be jerked to is the only positive.

>10. Solo: A Star Wars Story

The only Star Wars film that most people really never wanted in the first place.

From a plot standpoint, TFA fucked everything with JJ’s stupid fucking idea to reset everything so the OT never happened. From a lore standpoint, throwing out the EU and replacing it with Wendig and the purple armpit tumblrinas was the terminal mistake, which again is JJ’s fault because that rat nosed kike wanted to create his own universe.

It could have been salvaged by a canny hand at the helm, but Rian was the absolute worst person to give things to. He didn’t just make it worse, he put it to a whole new level of bad where instead of a lame series which people disliked it became an existential crisis for Star Wars which might skunk the whole brand and perhaps even Disney. Kennedy and Lucasfilm then tossed gasoline on the fire by declaring they want to kill white males and drive them out, and having their press cocksuckers shitting out articles about how evil the fanbase is.

Fun thread

You have been teleported to the Legends/Nu-Universe.

You have all abilities, wealth and tools you have in this world the only difference is you are now within that universe. You are you.

You retain your knowledge and the universe is at the point in which you know the most about it. If you're a clone wars fan, you are at roughly the time of Phantom Menace. If you're a Galactic Empire fan then you're at the time of Knightfall/Order 66. etc etc.

How do you become the emperor/destroy the universe/save the galaxy?

I am thinking about reading the entire Expanded Universe/Legends series of novels in chronological order, starting with Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void and ending with Crucible.

In the interest of saving a bit of time I'll be skipping the YA novels but will probably include graphic novels like Dark Empire and such. Also gonna play some of the software I've got lying around that I never finished, not necessarily in chronological order (except maybe in the case of KOTOR, since I haven't played that in years and may a refresher it to read through "Revan."

Now before I start this journey…is this a good idea? I've heard a lot of the EU is bad, but how bad? Would I be able to endure such a project and keep my brain intact?

>The midis were just a way to make sure not everyone in the universe had access to its vast power, only a chosen few.

i thought we all agreed the midichlorians were the power level of star wars, a way for the jedi to check one's natural attunement to the force, and as such they selected individuals who met the minimum requirements. remember, lucas once stated that anyone could become a jedi if they took the time and training, but the jedi were dedicated to it.

Wow, thanks. You're a good guy.

It's more of a measure of how easy it is to access the Force without rigorous education and exercise. This directly relates to how plausible it is for somebody to be trained in a reasonable amount of time with available resources and manpower to become something like a Jedi.

>>18856

In the old canon the Jedi had the agricultural and medical corps for padawan who just couldn't hack it as a wizard monk. It's true that everyone could access or be affected by the Force, but it's only reasonable to attempt it with people for whom it wouldn't be inordinately long and hard to work with and the midichlorian count is just one factor they consider when screening potentials. It's also a matter of public safety as somebody with Qui-gon or Yoda levels of Force affinity could become a danger if not taught how to use that power and inculcated with an ethical system about its use. On their own they might not learn to throw lighting or crush skeletons but they could have precognitive abilities they never properly understood to cheat at gambling or apply a little bit of Force alacrity and speed to a successful mugging career.

is it that surprising that someone would be reasonable in a discussion?

I'm still unsure about this. I wouldn't want fans collectively revising material, since the artist(s) should have complete control. voting existing works in and out of canon could work, but then there's the danger that the fandom could become cancerous enough to vote irresponsibly.

maybe you could have three tiers: creator canon, fanon with significant support, then everything else. that would build off the current two-tiered system of canon/legends.

>Iger wants to fire Kennedy, but nobody wants the job because she put too many of her minions to work at Lucasfilm

ARE WE ACTUALLY WINNING?

Is this the fall of Lucasfilm? Can we expect better things? Worse things? Mediocre things? How fucked are we if Filoni does take Kennedy's place? Should the head of Lucasfilm be replaced by a team of two people? A creative director and a business director? Luceno and some finance expert or something? If that happens, can we safely say our shit has been unfucked? Will 2019 be the deciding year for the future of our franchise? We will somehow unfuck it? Force it to rest in peace? Or reduce it to the point where it just makes toys and games but no movies?

>the biggest sin Plagueis makes is it confirms and legitimizes, rather than debunk and invalidates, the dumb as dogshit concept of Anakin's birth being set up by Palps and Las Plagas.

It's not that simple. Anakin is sort of a self-defense mechanism of the force that was destined to be unleashed if shit was about to go down (and since Anakin is part of a prophecy, that means Palpatine etc everyone are all part of some predetermined destiny we cannot understand). The time of his birth also coincides with the aggressive Sith rituals/meditation/experiments Palpatine and Plagueis were trying out. There are multiple reasons for Anakins birth and the whole event is structured in a way where everything fits into place. Anakin exists because he needs to. Palpatine exists because he needs to. Plagueis exists because he needs to. Everything happens because it needs to. The EU just makes it seem like there's an element of causality to all of it (as if you were observing the whole thing as an inhabitant of that fictional universe). The truth is though, everything is pretty much set in stone. Always in motion, the future is not. The future is set in stone, one way or the other. Anakin is a result of ancient Je'daii meme magic.

A more active villain throughout the prequels would have been an improvement. Maul, Dooku, or Grevious could have all filled such a role, but I'd like Grevious for it just because he isn't a sith lord/force sensitive. Going to disagree on having the Clone Wars start in episode 1 though. TPM could have used some tweaks but was overall a good intro into the prequel trilogy

He went into a blind rage when his father told him he wanted/always had wanted to kill him. I don't remember if Palpatine is said to feel guilty about his mother and the others though, but it's implied to have just been part of his berserking.
