Things that retarded fans seem to parrot as facts but are complete bullshit and grind your gears.

Here is a common one as an example:

USS Defiant - Sisko's ship - Facts:

>Was equipped with a Romulan cloaking device

>Said cloak was to be only used in Gamma Quadrant

>Also meant to be only operated by a Romulan Waifu that disappeared for whatever reason

>When the original Defiant was destroyed, the replacement did not have a cloaking device fitted

Somehow this translates to:

<Federation had developed cloaking technology

<All Defiant Class ships have cloaking devices

Shit like this makes me rage about the Trek fanbase.

This is true even to this day, Black and White tv's can have 100% pixel fill which even modern tv's can't achieve. Not sure why mention this unless you are going to talk about the pilot episode?

>I believe I've said this before but I have come to the conclusion that anyone who rants and raves about how great TOS is especially over TNG and DS9 has never watched it.

I think it's a generational thing. TOS was certainly hit-and-miss, but the rest of the sci-fi TV landscape in the late 1960s and early 1970s was miss-and-miss. Sci-fi fans who grew up in that time basically had nothing else to watch.

That relationship is a lot easier to portray as 'sexually tense' even flirtatious - until you remember that Garak is bored as hell and just turning up the hamminess to entertain himself with the closest thing he's found to intelligent company in a long time. Besides, everyone knows that Garak/Tora is the only actual love story in DS9

Does anyone find it weirdly contradictory that the Federation had a death sentence for going to the Talosian's planet because they were afraid people would obtain their technology and become addicted to it. Then a few decades later the Federation develops their own eerily similar technology and puts it on all of their shiny starships?

>Also dear god tell me one of them isn't a chick now?

The best part is the Talosians in TOS were all played by women with male voices overdubbed as a deliberate casting choice to make them seem more alien and give an effect of "antisexuality."

So in a way, STD is undermining its own "muh diversity" agenda by stripping out that interesting antisexual quirk and making them very blatantly male and female.

>The Scotty paradox; did Scotty retire and get trapped in stasis while believing Kirk was alive and well, or did Scotty drink himself to death believing Kirk died on board the Enterprise-C and he couldn't save him…

What happened is that Leonard Nimoy and Deforest Kelley decided that dignity outweighed the need for a paycheque and turned down showing up in Generations as the writers (Ronald Moore and Brannon Braga) originally planned, Walter Koenig and James Doohan decided that the need for a paycheque outweighed dignity and accepted the offer to be the replacements. Either Moore and Braga totally forgot about the Relics plot despite Moore also having written that episode, or they just hoped that nitpicking nerds wouldn't pay attention to that plot hole.

Sorry to break immersion and all, but let's not pretend that Star Trek plot holes are the result of anything but writing, casting, or budget issues.

At the time of writing that post, the Short Treks were not even on Netflix. Apparently, Netflix got them for free like a month afterwards, and then they hid them in the "Trailers and more" section. CBS initially expected Netflix to buy the rights to the Short Treks for non NA distribution, but Netflix refused. Netflix eventually got them for free with the deal to distribute Season 2 outside of NA.

Since Discovery has (somehow) been approved for a season 3, I do not know if Netflix will cough up the money again, or Netflix will just go "if you want non-NA viewers, you're going to have to accept our deal".

That all said, streaming services have gone to absolute shit. First it was just Netflix, but then Disney did their own thing, HBO did their own thing, CBS did their own thing, now the UK broadcasters are joining forces to do their own thing as well. That's not forgetting Amazon who ties their weird subscription to their "Prime", which is total bullshit and anit-consumerist. Soon, you'll have to have something like 5-6 subscriptions to watch whatever you want.

I just fucking realised that the Borg going from a terrifying omnipotent inscrutable menace to bumbling stooges might not have been a convenient retcon, but rather part of their actual plan.

Forget about "The Borg" as in the Star Trek "race" and what that means to you. Think about what a real galaxy-spanning machine-mind might be like: how distantly beyond any little federation it would be as a result of assimilating, cross-referencing and extrapolating on every technology and philosophy it can find and using that to advance itself.

How fucking ludicrous it is that some humans could ever out-wit a patient, immortal collective like that.

We couldn't ever even assume that whatever surface it presents to us is its real self. As far as we know, every feature or characteristic we are presented with is merely a strategic choice designed to influence our long-term decisions.

What I'm getting at is that I think the Federation has already been assimilated, they (and by extension we) just don't realise it yet.

And they did this with Jeri Ryan's massive fucking bongo titties.

What we see of the Borg are basically dumb inept insects that are the DIAMETRIC OPPOSITE of the things the Federation values about themselves, and the reason they resist assimilation. But if our individuality and sense of self really is a strength, then wouldn't the collective want to incorporate that? But how would you assimilate that without destroying it?

Maybe by letting us think we're independent will still finding an interface that integrates us as an intact organ into a greater whole.

Maybe you'd go about that with a sophisticated bimbo trojan horse aimed directly at us, the audience (and by extension the crew) and some bullshit about a unimatrix, and LARPing as antagonists while all along safeguarding their (partially-borgified) ship and ultimately even ultimately giving them a highway to get home.

I think it's interesting that a show like Star Trek could design some very high-concept constructs but then hand them off to oblivious sitcom writers. Intentionally partitioned like that, ideas can potentially build up from and around the audience, instead of filtering down from showrunners hiding their hand.

Imagine missing the point of Miri this hard.

It's not a lazy gimmick that they find a planet that happens to be an exact reflection of 1960s Earth. It's very intentional. The entire episode is a mission statement for the series as a whole, which is why it's the only ep in TOS which has a different font for the title card.

It's also why most of the children in the episode are the IRL kids of the crew and cast. Shatner holds his own child in his arms at one point and Roddenberry's spawn is running around there somewhere. They were thinking about the future.

Pro-tip: look at what's drawn on the chalkboard behind Kirk, the dialogue, and the costumes the Onlies are wearing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm6gjQBwPFM

BTW the kid with the gavel is the kid from To Kill A Mockingbird, and that's not a coincidence either.

Fuck you m8. Also Janeway and Gumby proved women make terrible captains. None of those are even bad episodes and backdoor pilots were common as shit back then. The only truly bad episode of TOS was the Alternative Factor. Spock's Brain is stupid but its horribly enjoyable.

The very first episode to feature them was an early TNG episode, "The Wounded." That was the one with Captain Maxwell, the civilian Cardie ship that was totally not carrying weapons, and the jock strap helmets. They didn't get a proper first contact, just an offhand mention that they recently had a border skirmish with the Feddies. I'm guessing they were originally meant as a one or two-off species instead of a major power, which is why they never had a proper introduction.

Marc AyyLamo supposedly said he enjoyed Cardassians so much that he wanted to appear as them again. He gave a powerful several hour long speech during which the producers had to change their pants several times due to having arousal accidents that by the end they designed the whole race based around his physique and character.

Nigga, the skirmish in the teaser happens after Picard shares one of his war stories.

Production company Paramount is in talks with S.J. Clarkson to direct the fourth installment in the rebooted film series starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.

Clarkson directed episodes from TV series including "Dexter," "Bates Motel" and "Orange is the New Black," as well as the Marvel-based series "Jessica Jones" and "The Defenders."

Apparently, as I understand it, it's a bit like guys and porn, chasing constant novelty and all that. Besides, I guess women would want ones where the clothes are still in style.

I think it's something loike this, but more to do with subtle fashions in moviemaking itself? For example, every twenty years they release a new Pride & Prejudice, and it's not because the costumes are any different.

Several years ago I purchased "Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Special Longer Version) from a thrift store. It was the first time I saw the movie. I just discovered that this was an unofficial release made by ABC that had no input from the original creators. I am curious what major differences there were between versions. Did I watch a completely different version of the film?

>Here is a list of the footage that was added to the theatrical version to create the 1983 "Special Longer Version".

* Decker asks Sulu to take Ilia "in hand". He then gives her a brief explanation of the computer. Ilia reminds Sulu of her celibacy oath, and Decker tells Ilia "the captain didn't mean anything personally", and Ilia says she'd never take advantage of a sexually immature species.

* After the wormhole, and after Decker, Bones, and Kirk depart for quarters, there is another short Sulu/Ilia exchange about current speed and current heading. Ilia then confirms it. Both these scenes were apparently shot to provide a sense of romance between the two, but were cut to clear up Decker's same relation.

* Rather than Kirk saying, "Make your point, Doctor" when discussing the obsession with the Enterprise, there is one brief exchange, and McCoy gives his line in a medium shot, rather than a shot of the two standing side-by-side.

* During the attack on the Enterprise, the ship actually gets hit by an extra energy torpedo. We hear it, and the lighting also suggests it, but we never see it. Some minor scene extensions are added. There is also an alternate take of Spock's analysis.

* There is a short scene in which Spock reveals the frequency of V'Ger's transmission. This appears in the Director's Edition.

* Decker takes over Chekov after his hand is burned, and a female crew member takes over for him. Decker goes to help Spock, and we return to the theatrical footage of the second (or third) energy torpedo being fired.

* Chekov returns to his post after a humorous exchange from Bones, and Spock reveals that V'Ger emits more radiation than the Sun.

* The famous footage of Kirk shadowing Spock during the space walk sequence is included.

* There is an alternate take when Nurse Chapel gives the Ilia-probe Ilia's headband.

* The Ilia-probe mentions the creator is "on the third planet". She then removes the headbands, and asks why two carbon units have entered V'Ger. Bones replies that they wish to contact it. Decker asks if V'Ger has a problem with that, and Ilia says no. V'Ger will find out their purpose. Bones sPost too long. Click here to view the full text.
