I like the idea of looking for saturated colours specifically.

From these five I find only >>86 and possibly >>87 good as cellphone photos.

Other three feature only a sign of volume, they look completely flat. I wish they were composed better.

The OP photo is fine - good colour, OK composition. Others only share some sunset colours and terribly deep shadows.

Cellphone pics are not too bad, I just wish that there is some thought put into them.

I'm impressed with this one. The tones and shadows are so film-like. What phone did you use?

I found myself enjoying much more the 5 mpx pictures that came out of my old Galaxy S rather than the 12 mpx ones from my new fancy android. Dynamic range is completely kill on the new one.

Hi 8chan /p/. Let me say that i mostly lurked /p/ over there and didn't like posting because people are unreasonable assholes (for the lulz) but I hated it.
I'm trying out here to see what it's like.

I'm working on a series of light pained images of outdated technology called "Retro Techno". Each is about 15-20 exposures blended. U guise like? Please keep n mind this is my first real attempt at serious light painting.

I used a cable release and just kept the shutter open until I was done painting each section. I used a small Single LED flashlight and an iPhone light.

>where to get a database for google streetview images

Do you mean "a busload of raster images with geotagging"? Google won't let dump it easily.

However, here is what you have access to if you have internet connection:
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/streetview/
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/streetview

These are official APIs for accessing street images. They may be an option if you do not require a busload of images be accessible immidiately.

A thread for those working with video or film. Be it Narrative, documentary, or videography. Feel free to discuss technique, share your work, and debate gear.

Please suggest any changes to be made to the thread form, and if we should have a recommended gear list as on halfchans' /vid/ threads.

 No.126

Alright, I've started on a recommended gear list, somewhat lifted from /p/s' vid gens. Please make any corrections/suggestions you can think of.

Cameras (body only):
$250 EOS M - Same feature set as 550D/T2i with Magic Lantern. Poor autofocus for stills. Vanishingly small first party lens support. Has Mic input.
~$250: 550D/T2i - Good feature set with Magic Lantern. Better for stills photography than EOS M. Has Mic input.
~$300: GH2 - Great video quality. Poor default codec. Articulating LCD. Video vastly improved with various hacks. Non-standard 2.5mm Mic input.
$350: A5100 - Very strong low cost performer. Ergonomic quibbles. No mic input.
~$0: 600D/T3i - The same as 550D/T2i but with an articulating screen. Has Mic input.
~$400+: 50D - Cheapest RAW you're going to get. Be prepared to buy a LOT of CF cards, though. No Mic input.
$500: D5200 - Solid low light. 60p. Poor body/controls. Has Mic input.
$1000: GH3 - Well rounded. 60p. Doesn't have focus peaking, zebras. Has Mic input.
$1000: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera - Difficult to work with, but excellent image. Cheap lens options (see CCTV lenses, etc.) due to 16mm equiv. sensor. Has Mic input and headphone out.
$1700: GH4 - Flexible, shoots 4K and 96p. Clean HDMI out. Has Mic input and headphone out.
$2000: Blackmagic Cinema Camera - More capable version of the Pocket Cinema Camera. Non-removable battery. Same drawbacks. Has mic input and headphone out.
$2500: A7s - God tier low light performance. Has some drawbacks. Adapted lenses pretty much a must. Has Mic input and headphone out.
Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

>~$300: GH2 - Great video quality. Poor default codec. Articulating LCD. Video vastly improved with various hacks. Non-standard 2.5mm Mic input.

>$1700: GH4 - Flexible, shoots 4K and 96p. Clean HDMI out. Has Mic input and headphone out.

I'd also add that from these three the best 1080p performer is GH2.

GH4 probably does the best if one resizes 4K down to 1080p but I don't have exact information.

Do you ever aim at making the result of your work to represent the reality in terms of colour and tonality?

Those who use film get this by default but digital tech is another story as it is today. Do you ever miss what film gives or you are perfectly fine with what you get with digits?

I cannot understand you.

Vectorscope in EXIF? What for? Everything what is needed is counting all HSL values, rendering a rounded pic from them and caching them like thumbnails are cached.

/p/ is small board, O think that Hotwheels will let us implement it.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class at The Art Institute of Chicago, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on art galleries, and I have over 300 confirmed picture sales. I am trained in gorilla photography and I’m the top black and white developer in the entire US. You are nothing to me but just another hipster photo wannabe. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your Instagram. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can photograph you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my iPhone. Not only am I extensively trained in large format photography, but I have access to the entire arsenal of medium format digital cameras from the local Art School and I will use them to their full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
