So I've been RPing for a while, but unfortunately I think I might fall into the "shit tier" category of RPing. I like to play in first person with a partner and like the posts to be around a paragraph, if not a little shorter, and while my writing isn't terrible it's far from perfect.
However, I've been browsing this board and found some interesting games(?) that involve civ-like stuff. And apparently there are other games like it out on the interwebs? I'm super interested, but I don't want to be "the shit player" so does anyone have some sort of crash course on how to be not trash they could give me?

One thing people don't expect when trying to improve is you need a good partner to improve, especially someone who can play off you so you can play off them. If they just do a boring action, you can only respond to that boring action. If they do a boring action but describe it, how it looks or sounds made, etc, you can do stuff with that. I didn't realize this until I started doing paragraphs. Being able to incorporate dialogue and action goes a long way too, but more than trying to respond to one or two sentences.
Also most first person RPers suck. I've been able to do RPs in first person because a partner specified they wanted me to, so I just incorporated what I know from third person into first. Still it's really bad practice and you'll usually only find shit tier partners.

I have a few like pretty concrete pointers for how to improve writing on erp. I'll keep them all like super mechanical so listen up!
*DON'T WRITE IN FIRST PERSON. It is terribly limiting because it restricts the range of what you can easily write about. First person is all from your point of view, third person is where it's at because you can describe everything with omniscience. This makes writing about new ideas and actions and story elements WAYYYYY easier.
*LEARN TO WRITE FAST NOT BIG. If you can type fast, you can type a lot yes. But if you learn to vary your post length with your partner and type fast then your range of available partners opens up a lot. You can play with small posts that have very high frequency and even big posters because your writing is quick. It also helps to prepare you for more dynamic "on the fly" responses.
*VARY YOUR SENTENCES. Different lengths, different structures, etc. What I normally do to help others is as them to RP with me, and post only one line at a time saying each thing differently than the last. Sentences that all sound the same run together and sound gray and uninteresting to read.
*WRITE WITH PURPOSE. Don't waste time describing things if they aren't important. Don't waste time explaining the same thing more than once. Know what you and your partner want and make sure that everything sentence you write is in service of reaching that goal.
*IMPROVE. Most people who started E/RP didn't write nearly as well as they write now. Challenge yourself to seek out new partners who write more/different than you do and look at how they write, analyze their quirks and abilities, pick your favorites, and add them to your repertoire. If you do this enough, you'll develop a writing style, which is basically a "partners greatest hits" compilation.
Oh, and don't be a whiny cunt. Nothing makes decent E/RPers drop you faster than feeling like you're some sort of self-deprecating black hole.

Set it to semi paragraph. That's the seemignly safe for everybody range in my experience. Para and up filters out most people, but I'm fairly certain that semi para is most common. You are asking how to look less like a shitter. Well… shitters tend to have short or very short as their prefered ranges.
But this is part of why all the other anons suggest to write more in third person. There's a bit of a tonal difference between. "Pound Adam's prostate till he cums all over the place!" And "Pound MY prostate till I cum all over the place!" if you can get that. Would also suggest giving him a name. Helps make it feel less self inserting. More a character and less a doll being changed to fit the play.
I think you can keep the general ideas you have, just make it seem less. "Do this to ME" and more… "I have a sissy princess here! Do this to HIM!"

Good advice, I only have a problem with your post:

These are often at odds with each other. Trying to vary sentences is something that can get you from awful to mediocre pretty quick, but now-a-days, I feel like it's more of a trap than anything else. If you're going down this route, please, always remember that if you must go out of your way to vary your sentences grammatically - in fact, if you're even thinking about how to vary your sentence structure - it is, more often than not, a sign that your action is repetitive. This is why I always urge people not to use things like synonyms just to make the sentence sound better: if you really need to use synonyms, it usually means you're too repetitive with your ideas.

Write some proper text describing your character, and drop lists and schemes. If you can't even write your character properly - something you have plenty of time to do - how are you going to be able to keep up under the pressure of Fchat? If you want your character to be flexible, write that under spoilers, but keep things focused when you're writing an introduction; don't forget that this'll be an introduction not only to your character, but to your writing style / quality.
That post perspective needs to change, ASAP.
My suggestions:
Drop onomatopoeias and tildes, please, for the love of all that's holy. Why are phonetic alphabets so garbo?
Start writing by yourself; maybe have a warm up session before each play, where you try to write short interactions between your character and someone else.
Visualize more, and see a scene before you type it out. Look into image streaming.
