>get concussion

>live in a post-Benoit world where people still think Benoit did it

>think it's some "conspiracy theory" that you're not allowed to wrestle because you're Daniel Bryan while Corey Graves never pulls this shit

Honest question and I haven't watched rasslin since Owen 'fell' from the rafters, but do keep up with the memes and popular characters that leak outside the 'sport'. What is the source of Daniel Bryan's popularity or rise, what traits or skills allowed for it?

Indie darling with a beard that shouted "YES YES YES YES" while jumping down to the ring? His rise and fall was during the time I wasn't watching wrestling so I'm not sure myself.

He was over with casuals too but I think it was mostly the sma.rks which made him a bigger deal. He kept getting to the top, like winning the WWE championship but losing it immediately. Pissed off the sma.rks and the tipping point was when he didn't enter the Royal Rumble of 2014 but Batista did and won it instead which really ticked them off, even booed Rey Mysterio when he had entered at number 30. The following months WWE tried to play down Bryan or something but fan autism kept his fire alive to the point WWE couldn't ignore it and caved into their demands. So at Wrestlemania 30, Bryan beat all 3 members of evolution: Triple H in a singles match and Orton & Batista in the main event, where he tapped out Batista to become the World Champion.

Then he got injured 2 months later and had to vacate the title.

When he returned the following year, fans STILL wanted him in the top position and their autism persisted, so this time they booed Roman Reigns when he won the Rumble when in the previous year they wanted him to win over Batista and Roman has been booed ever since. WWE continued to push Roman over Bryan which irked people more. Roman went to face Lesnar in the main event while Bryan won the IC title.

Then he got injured 2 months later and had to vacate the title.

He returned a year later and announced his retirement.

Wonder if he came back after the brand split, maybe they would have dumped him on SD Live to wrestle. But it's likely not anyway.

Thing is doctors have said he's fine.

Yeah, it was WWE doctors that listed that he had a 'brain lesion'. In the video OP posted he said that he thought it meant that he had a cut in his brain but after he retired, his own doctor called him up and they spoke about this, then his doctor clarified that in medical terms 'brain lesion' is a very broad term. He checked again with him and found that the worst that happened to his brain was that his reflexes had slowed down from an athelete's level to a normal person's level. Then he found out that he can go through with a training process which could recover his reflexes back to as if he'd never lost them.

This is why he is training to come back, WWE still doesn't seem like they will get him back to wrestling. He did say that since he has a daughter now, he wouldn't want to do it a lot, since he wants to spend time with her, but is ok with something like 100-200 matches a year, a lighter schedule.

>New Japan

He'll die for sure there. Maybe the super junior division will work.

He also said that they didn't have a scan or reflext test from before he was injured, so his reflexes could actually be completely normal right now and since they don't have a control to balance against the doctors would never know.

Bryanu Dainerusonu should go back to njpw and face Tanahashi for the intercontinental belt.

Imagine halfbraindead bryan shouting 'YES' in japanese to the ring.

thanks for the info, and it is a little surprising how popular he was with fans as I can't see him being popular in the previous eras that I watched, he had that unemployed sleeping in my van look about him.

I stopped watching in 2012 and came back in 2016 and was surprised to hear how popular Bryan became too. I liked him back then but never thought he would be one of the top guys. The 'Yes' chant and the whole Yes Movement sure took him on another level.

Shit, look at this, it's absolutely amazing. I don't even think Cena managed to rouse up this much support from the crowd. Apparently people were even doing the Yes chant at places like football games and so. Guess he really could have become something more. Though, having those injuries and retiring the title two years in a row, I can see why WWE would not want to put him in that center role, plus I don't know how well house shows and what not were doing during his title reigns to put that as another factor. Well if only WWE pushed him properly in 2013, we'll never truly know.
