/vr/, does anyone have experience with R.O.B.? I just picked this up from my local game store and I'm having a few issues trying to get him to work. He turns on and spins and such, but he just turns one way and keeps trying to go that way. It seems like opening him up there is the motor to spin him, and it just keeps spinning in the same direction.

I'm not sure if it is something I'm doing wrong with setting him up, or it is just a faulty motor and there isn't anything to do about it. Any tips or help with what I might be able to do?

Upon closer inspection, turns out Im an idiot.

He was just resetting himself into position and I needed to just let him run a little longer. But seems Im running into the issue of this piece.

R.O.B. can move down, but not up. Looking around it seems to be that the gear Im pointing to needs to be glued to the actual rod. Has anyone else fixed a R.O.B. this same way?

I've seen people talking about replacing some of the gears in ROB years back, but fucked if I know how to repair the bastard. I have no desire to own one. The hardest thing will be finding diagrams or photos of the internals in working order to use as reference, as most people in the classic gaming hobby are fucking drooling idiots.

All of the good Nintendo forums are dead or co-opted by idiots now. You might be able to get better assistance at some general gaming sites like maybe Jamma+? Or Retrogamer.net?

I can help you out. I've been working around with R.O.B. units for the past three years, so I know a thing or two.

That gear mechanism is responsible for moving R.O.B. up and down. If it's moving down, but not up, then it's something wrong with that gear.

Just make sure to clue that wavy piece of metal to the plastic gear it's setting on.

Yup, I had found that out after I glued that whole gear set to the axle….Which was a really bad idea. So I had to spend some time getting all of that unstuck.

But yeah, gluing that black wavy piece worked! He now is moving perfectly in all directions.

All I have left to do now is clean up the gyro spinner, which looks really gross; And find an extra claw as he only came with one. Otherwise I have all the gyromite pieces. And I suppose eventually finding all the Stackup pieces, but that set looks crazy pricey.
