Which is why I asked you to define it. If we don't even know how we would define it how can we expect anyone else to actually know either? We all have a very definite image of things that should be considered yuri but without solid definition it causes problems outside of yuri circles. It's like posting on forums, you see some people posting things in certain contexts but you don't neccissarily know why until you lurk or read enough to get an intuitive feel for what is "right" or "wrong". Same with this, noone actually bothered defining it and therefore everyone sort of knows what it is about but others outside of the "communities" won't always get the whole picture.
I think if the media focuses around the life of a lesbian character's lesbianism then the primary narrative genre can be considered yuri with it being a secondary narrative genre if the primary focus of the story is about a lesbian but not about her sexuality. This would include situations in which lesbian characters try to get with heterosexual girls becaue I don't think the success or failure of the character removes that element. I am open to suggestion on my definition but I think this is a good point to start. I am also aware that certain narratives are dislikeable and go against the spirit of what I would consider yuri but am not sure that just because it goes against the spirit or that I don't like it means that it has to not be included.
