Last part. Len and Mitsurugi face off against each other, deciding who can change the fate of the world. Len isn't strong enough and is actually slain by Mitsurugi. But just like Goku, she taps into some of that hidden divinity and come back alive. And instead of gaining the skills necessary to defeat Mitsurugi, she rewrites the fate of the world itself so she lands a disarming blow on her. Mitsurugi knocks her out and walks away, trusting the future to her. But Inari still performs the ritual to revive her God. And you want to know what her God was?
A GOD DAMN FUCKING TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF KYOTO.
And yes, It's Yggdrasil. Shino and Len cry about all those that died to revive a fucking plant and then time skips with a picture still, saying the world did indeed change and you better accept this ending.
Credits roll and the absolute madman put a "To Be Continued…" at the end. I was honestly shocked at what I had just scene. That's not all, the extra scenes unlock and the last one is one between cat Len and Ruka (for some reason) with another two saying 'coming soon.'
Okay, take a breath. You're caught up to where I am now, let me lay all the problems down.
I like this from the get go, gave me reason to keep going with the story, weither Uzume could be saved and after that it was that final battle. But looking back I begin to notice the problems and it's mostly to do with the ending. Let's leave the obvious aside and pick at the small details.
What will happen to Ruka's clan now that she's having free reign? Will they be saved? Doesn't ever say.
What happened to Haku? Does she give the final blade piece to Len? Does the compleated blade allow Len to know more of Utano? Doesn't ever say.
How does Len tap into her god powers and what was this Ayakashi Record Inari spoke of? Doesn't ever say.
Where does Mitsurugi go after this? How badly is the world affected by a giant tree appearing in Kyoto? Why do the girls become guardians for said tree? Doesn't ever say.
Probably the biggest question: Why does it imply Shinto mythology and indeed alot of characters and things are related to it but then have Norse the focal point for the ending?
Even bigger question: Why was Inari's god a fucking tree?
I was expecting something like Orochi from Okami but instead I get a tree. You spend 98% of your TWO games showing us all this Shinto stuff then you drag Norse out of fucking nowhere. Why?
WHY THE FUCKING TREE?
I have no answers. Yet apparently its' "To Be Continued." I dunno man, this ending has left me stumped… heh, for answers. My recommendation for Ne No Kami is if you're going in expecting Shinto and yuri, go play Aoi Shiro. If you want some tolerable stuff that gets really good in the middle then falls flat at then end, then go through it. It's only about 20 hours combined or so. But if we're talking serious, I can't honestly recommend it.
