With all the discussion about getting away from Linux, what bootloader do all of you recommend to write a kernel with? Apparently grub is pozzed, but I have no idea which of the alternatives are any good. I will be doing my own research, but do want the insight of /tech/ on what has problems with CoCs or other potential fuckery.

write your own bootloader

LILO or LOADLIN aren't good enough for you then?

LiLo

Can syslinux or lilo handle UUIDs?

Das Uboot is cool and makes me think of dear Führer-senpai.

iirc, LILO supports UUIDs out-of-box. Just set the root variable to the UUID in LILO's configuration files.

Sorry, didn't meant UUID, but PARTUUID (obviously).

Best bootloader is pic related.

 No.983235>>983439

I really liked Grub 1. But even this one pissed me off. I think LILO was the best actually. But only when it actually worked. It was kind of a hit and miss. The new Grub is awful.

>>983175

Systemd boot, yeah, it's probably the only good thing about systemd. It's simple and works exactly like a bootloader should. You just write a config file and the damn thing will boot whatever it is. Like old Grub but more simplistic. The problem is - you only get it when you use systemd. And using systemd fucks up just too much just to use it to have a nice bootloader. I'd rather take the Grub2 clusterfuck. For those using arch though, yeah, use systemd boot so you'll actually have a little pay off in using systemd anyway

 No.983329

I honestly like grub2 especially being flashed on my mobo.

It's modular design might seem overkill, but for BIOS systems it supports every file system and partition scheme I might use.

I install Linux from the ISO in my home directory without having to use physical media.

OSX and another BSD have a pretty cool forth system, but when has anyone used it?

Lilo would take ages on my system to load the kernel.

Gentoo has a systemd boot package which doesn't depend on systemd

 No.983544

Refind works out of the box and automatically find new partitions.

# efibootmgr -c -L "Gentoo Linux" -l "\gentoo.efi"

syslinux, use git version for latest features such as xfs support http://repo.or.cz/syslinux.git
