Smart cars and self driving cars and presumably any related networked closed source hardware and software (Tesla cars, Alexa, cellphones, etc) will contribute significantly towards the video and audio logging of global surveillance of consumers and anyone near one of these devices.

I've been told that people buy these devices out of hope to be praised by peers, but is there really anything praiseworthy in expensive toys that lessen the privacy of anyone that get near these networked devices?

Is there anything good about this apparent unstoppable trend towards complete surveillance and the vulnerabilities of logging all networked data?

I'd love to actually oppose self driving cars but frankly the incompetent public have demonstrated they're too brain dead to drive a car on a road properly and are incapable of reading basic signs or observing traffic around them, every argument against them can't compete with basic reality at this point so I'm just bracing myself for the eventual mass adoption of them.

The best option would be to keep them off your personal networks and treat the environment as if you're being actively monitored by a committee or something and just not say anything controversial. That or just find an alternative mode of transportation, maybe move into the city and take the smart bus hoping the amount of people alone obfuscates your conversations.
