Going to repartition my hdd, and reinstall Gentoo (my daily driver) along with a few other OSes. What WM/DE should I use? I've been using fluxbox. I'm torn between staying minimal and going with openbox, and going whole hog and installing kde plasma.

webm not related

Deepin Overlay is pertty awesome.

If I can finally get to installing Gentoo that would be my choise.

Actually I don't right now. Been using fluxbox as my wm for a few years. I do most things from the command line. Windowing is for shit posting and video

>>976977

Kinda tired of the minimalism of using fluxbox. Leaning towards going all out with kde. I'll check out deepin. It looks nice.

Why go full blown KDE when you already know how to minimal wm-box. KDE feels like an infection to me. Trying to get a tiny program from their creators installed 20 more crappy KDE dependencies. It can look nice if you give it enough of your time, but why? It still is bloated and runs very slowly compared to flux/openbox. I suspose if you have a modern backdoored processor you might not notice any lag in KDE. I think that if you go KDE you will be trusting in a much larger code base and much larger attack surface to bugs and possibility unintentional backdoors in KDE code. Maybe try KDE in a fresh install on a VM and see how you like it before committing.

I just want to experiment. Having a minimalist riced out experience is fun, but it's like driving a very high end sports car. Yeah it goes fast as shit, but the seat hurts your ass and the suspension is so tight you can feel the lines painted on the road.

I want a cushy ride in a luxury sedan. I want to relax in my Rolls Royce Phantom, being able to give my driver commands from my touchscreen. I never even have to look at the plebeian swine except for when he opens my door. I can listen to my favorite tunes while I gaze at the customized simulated stars built into the ceiling of the passenger compartment.

>cushy analogy

Your analogy makes it seem like you have already made up your decision, but (like most analogies) it doesn't provide any evidence (in this case for why KDE may be better or even more comfortable). I think after a few months of using KDE you will realize you are not more comfortable, just more locked into a bloated DE. KDE is popular, so clearly it isn't unusable.

I used unebootin and other programs and each time it was something different.

Something about a booting secure access and other things.

Unless your definition of backdoorless is pentium 4 or AMD Turion which is beyond usable.

Might as well just get a much recent Atom/Celeron that is immune to bugs or a non-generic architecture.

My mind is not entirely made up, but that's definitely how I'm leaning, at least I was. I've been use kde in the Gentoo livedvd, and it keeps crashing, and doesn't have the proper wifi drivers. Oh how I miss my wired connection.

So as a derail, anyone know a good host distro for building Gentoo other than Gentoo? I'm using an old linux mint thumb drive I found. My understanding is it can be tricky building from ubuntu based distros.

>>977081

Sounds like your thumbdrive might be fucked. I've always had the best luck with the usb-imagewriter that comes with ubuntu based distros (maybe actually debian? I don't actually know alot about the program). It's pants on head retardedly easy to use. It's never failed me. Its pretty much the only reason I keep a linux mint thumbdrive around. You should just be able to dd the ISO onto the drive, but I've had that not work sometimes, and I'm too much of a pajeet to understand why.

>>977076

I've always wanted to make a distro that used emacs as the init and environment. It would just be a novelty, but it would be hilarious.

People who ask this sort of questions make me wonder if the NPC meme is actually real.

Do you seriously need to come here and ask us to choose the DE/WM you are going to use for you?

Do you really lack the capacity to choose a program that you, YOU will be using not us, on your own?

Are you retarded?

People like to know other's experiences. I know the autism makes it impossible for you to empathize with others, but normal people like to research things before they do them. It can be good to know what other people think of something. It can save lots of time and trouble. Unlike you, most people don't want to reinvent the wheel.
