Just realize that your coworkers most likely won't just be assholes, but narcissistic sociopathic assholes. Be prepared to be one too if you want to enter that field.

Quantitative Finance has less sociopaths and more autists, but it requires that your statistical knowledge is absolutely top-notch. You may be able to get by with your algorithms if you try for High Frequency Trading algo development though.

I shall have to look into that field. It seems so tough to apply the knowledge I have to the work place. Sure I might now a fancy algorithm to multiply matrices but how do I match this knowledge with a job description.

This, if you want to do just math then Wall St or some other sort of financial institution such as a hedge fund or insurance firm are good choices, if you want to get into coding as well then the high frequency trading companies will also love you.
