This guy may be one of the least competent "developers" and I'm mad that he was hired. He took the site's last chance to retain some shred of independence from Jim and threw it out the window. And he took Hotwheels with him.

Best part is how our community spent thousands to incentivize the creation. He goes over budget, throws a tantrum, gets fired, and then tries to claim ownership of the codebase. For a job he was hired to do.

Kiwifarms works well.

He didn't just steal $10k, his severe mismanagement of the project killed this chan. He force-migrated most of the smaller boards to next which was rarely up, failed to copy over their existing threads correctly destroying their board culture, and when that failed and boards returned to the old site didn't copy the posts back over leaving the few who remained on those boards to basically start over. That killed almost every one of the smaller board communities. I feel sorry for whomever joins his hosting service as they'll get fucked by his irresponsibility and autism.

It had everything to do with software. Next was written with a shitty ORM and written extremely poorly, Josh didn't understand indexes and said he didn't know shit like 'big O' when we were mocking him here, next had no cache at all when he first attempted to migrate the whole site (it was literally generating every single page read via a SQL ORM) and it blew the fuck up, after it had a cache he blamed the servers being a performance bottleneck despite the site only getting 2 posts per second at peak, he had NO FUCKING IDEA how to even begin to debug a performance bottleneck and wound up trying to just randomly blame things like insisting "hotwheels' catcha" was the reason the DATABASE was falling over. And it was obviously the database as a few of us did test next with scripted posts when it was up.

The license argument was something else entirely, it was an attempt to salvage the code that had already been paid for after it was deemed a failure in hopes it could be fixed by someone else. The argument itself was Jews jewing Jews, but again it wasn't relevant here as next didn't fucking work.

I guess I'm misinformed. I didn't follow the tech side that closely and it's impossible to tell who's telling the truth about the internal drama, but supposedly Hotwheels wasn't responding to Josh for long periods of time and they shut the whole thing down quick without giving time to fix it and Josh wasn't informed how cache heavy the website would need to be or how it would have to be built etc. It sounded like a clusterfuck that was a little bit of everyone's fault.

It's hard to imagine how he'd fuck up the performance as badly as it fucked up since he has made other moderately popular websites before, but he did try to fix it for a long time afterwards for nextchan or whatever and the performance never got very good, so who knows.

You're believing Josh's excuses, of which he had an unlimited supply. On the first attempt when he claimed it was ready to go Josh literally took the whole site down to migrate the data onto next over a day or two having never tried to do a full migration before and thus having never actually tested the thing with real data and having never written scripts to simulate the load (I asked him about that, he never did it at any point that entire year and would just periodically use the live server to "test"), and he was having to fix issues with data not importing correctly as he went. Live. Like, we were watching the changes and hacks he was adding while trying to bring it back up and decisions on what content would just be lost rather than immediately abandon the migration as even a first year Pajeet would have done.

That's the kind of person he is. He's completely fucked in the head. Serious things are wrong with him.

And the code for next hasn't seen an update since 2016, nobody uses it. I wouldn't be surprised if there was more time spent discussing and making excuses for it compared to actual work done on it by Josh this point. Having him involved with this site was a massive waste of time and money.
