Just wipe an old computer, install nothing but gentoo+browser of your choice (as well as X), only visit bank site directly, only ever turn it on for banking.

>is this safe?

Yes safe enough. Safer than 99% of businesses.

>whats safer?

Cover non/tech/ parts of security

>multiple accounts across several banks

>no cards attached to accounts with more money than you can loose

>clear understanding of banks' security policies

>use of correct currency (if not in 1st world)

>cash in mattress to protect against account locks

It actually doesn't matter. If the Russians get you, your bank will just give your money back.

Having an online banking account is actually more secure sometimes. Fraudsters have started stealing people's identities and basically opening online banking on people's accounts granting them full access ezpz.

If you have to use a bank (because you live near too many blax), use an ATM or visit a branch. Personal computers are prone to malware and should not be used for purposes that require security. If you lose money from using an ATM it's their fault and you should sue them. If you lose money from "web banking", some banks say they will give you your money back, but once they see you're using Linux with a custom window manager, you will be disqualified and remain missing your $40000.

Have fun getting your card skimmed faggot.

Rolls of dimes/nickels are the only anonymous form of cash. Need that extra value meal? Just skip over to the bank and have them roll you up 5 rolls of nickels. Buy something on Amazon? Send them nickels through the mail. A small flatrate box is $7 (3.5 rolls of nickels) and weight doesn't matter. You can stuff it with as many nickels as will physically fit without affecting the price of shipping.

Poe's law really makes it hard for me to tell if you're sardonic; this is /tech/ after all.

 No.969455>>969482 >>969554

If you lose money from getting skimmed (or from identity theft) you should sue the bank for stealing your money. The whole reason banks came into existence is so people can hide their money with gunmen. Then they became so big they couldn't recognize their customers, yet they still claim to provide the same security as the original banks. They absolutely should be sued for making people lose money to this.

I agree though, I use cash, half my money is stored as cash, and I will probably never use a bank again once my bank account is depleted.

>implying it's impractical to use cash despite centuries of people being fine with it

>implying I use Amazon or give a shit about whatever that is (an online store? why the fuck would you ever buy anything online???)

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you these days. Most of my money is in cash or tied up in real things like property. I don't order things from the web very often but when I do it's simple enough to load a cash card with what I need for the purchase. Also more secure than using a credit/debit card and avoids the issue of getting drunk and drunk buying a bunch of shit I don't need.

>>969291

This is an issue at every bank and credit union I've ever used. Online banking websites are the most insecure websites I've ever had the displeasure of using.

>>969425

>Have fun getting your card skimmed faggot.

Which is the bank's fault and they'll deposit the funds back into your account if you report the card as stolen. Easy enough to take care of for someone that isn't a total faggot. You just keep an eye on the balance and ditch the card at the first sign of any activity that looks suspect. You shouldn't be using the plastic jew anyway though.
