I only started this year on a IT carrer and i already have a course on Design Thinking even before knowing design patterns or using UML stuff like class diagrams, how something like Design Thinking can be more important than knowing how to make the architecture of a software? i feel scammed.

Also this remminds me of some people saying that nowdays sociopaths who arent very able whit "technology" (kinda how it is also said that Win10 mockups were meade in powerpoint) are taking over the project management of IT companies so we get all these products and services that don't seem to be designed by somebody good at coding.

Not surprising, since these kind of people already took over the job of teaching/writing about project management.

I have never heard of any project or company actually using UML. It's one of the worst things I have ever had to study, so pedantic that it's more distracting than useful. I feel like most literature focusing on software project management is done by bored academics who invent increasingly more pedantic solutions to non existent problems.

SCRUM, UML, AGILE, PAIR PROGRAMMING... if anyone unironically uses these words in my presence I will fucking spit in their face.

But why? any experience/story?

Pair programming is actually pretty rad. Ever tried to program with a friend with your same skill level or higher? You can catch a lot of bugs on the fly.

Do they still teach UML? I thought the last person who thought it was a good idea died over a decade ago.

it's a bad idea? why?

You spend all your time modelling things at a level of abstraction too far away from code to be very useful to programmers but too close to code to be very useful to managers. I think the last time anyone ever asked me to work with UML was 15 years ago.

Last year, in my entry tier job I was asked to add UML schematics to the documentation of the project, thankfully I quickly finished it and moved to something more challenging, and after I was moved to a different project, because the code of the first one changed so much, a much older and experienced colleague was asked to re-do the schematics, because there was no intern/beginner to do so.

Unfortunately all the professors were taught it, and since they never have to make anything more than academic crapware for their research, they don't know that noone else uses it.

Also, scrum is a good and reasonable philosophy, fite me.

> we get all these products and services that don't seem to be designed by somebody good at coding

I heard the exact opposite: people good at coding write no meaningful or understandable documentation just read the source code dude lmao, neither they understand how non-machine-humans interact with computer devices sans the inconsistent user interfaces, sometimes not even consistent among one pattern like command line programs with each own arguments and variable names and their order.

You did this to yourself.

>What are you? Stupid? All you need to know how to do is whiteboard everything to death and remember these silly test tube scenarios that have no applicability to the job you will be doing when you graduate. Programming isn't important and your job as a computer scientist will be to advance the science of computing even though these jobs don't exist anymore as they are now divided between software engineering and computer hardware engineering.

This is how dumb you sound

>implying I have a friend

To me it just sounds like a waste of time. Also, why are you writing obvious bugs in the first place? To me it sounds like it would just result in a pointless argument about the best way to do it.

Only if you both are autists which seems to be the case.

There are a thousand UML models, some more useful than others, some more thecnical than others. The state machine UML diagrams are pretty rad and useful. Meanwhile, usecase diagrams are glorified wishlists with stupid stickmen to make them more palatable to marketing types. Class diagrams are simply stupid and should go. Guess which UML modes they teach the most in most classes

 No.967970

actually that is how my project management (where we see design thinking other stuff like requirement gathering) classes look like.

Are you in an actual career or some bullshit bootcamp?

Got a link to that?
