Consider being more open-minded. You might not find it respectable but being paid shitloads of money to write backend JS for 35 hours a week is pretty kickass.

Expect that you trade your mental health for average at best pay. Those jobs mostly consist of writing some API for pushing data to/from the database. Work like this gets old very quickly. More often than not they will also ask you to start doing frontend bullshit. At the end of the day you feel like you achieved nothing and become allergic to the anything web related.

Doing "full-stack" JS nowadays tends to pay as well if not better than low-level embedded systems work. And yes it's kind of monotonous but it's stress-free and easy and results in good work-life balance which is good for your mental health as well.

The kinds of jobs I'm talking about hardly require you to "dedicate your life". If you're somewhere that makes you work more than 40 hours a week then you're getting cucked.

And yeah, I don't like the shitty, bloated, unnecessarily-abstracted technology and frameworks either, but I do like getting paid, and as long as I'm not super lazy, I'll never lose the fundamental CS knowledge that enables me to work on my own projects.

It's just being pragmatic and willing to adapt to the absolute state of the modern economy.
