VT-X and the like obviate the need for native installs for the majority of applications. I would imagine gayming is still the big exception, owing to the host acting as intermediary to the graphics card. Perhaps there has been progress in hardware support for virtualization in graphics cards?

Gayming is fine with passthrough, just be aware that it's probably a security hole. VT-d isn't the high security ram firewall people think it is.

Linux runs quite nicely on a MacOS host, using VMWare. I truly do not understand how VirtualBox is still such a POS after all these years, but it is.
