Is react really worth of learning?

I live in Brazil, we don't have jobs in react. I don't know hows things going out of here. How is the area of react in other countries? What do /tech/ think about ReactJS?

 No.925000

honest answer: yes

biased answer: please don't

>is learning <flavor of the month js framework> worth it?

It's already way too old, the next big thing is probably just around the corner

If you want to help yourself in computing (and everybody who uses a computer) I beg you please to read this.

http://www.charlespetzold.com/code/

Get away from what is abstracted too much.

Depends. Are you somewhat experienced in javascript? What did you do before?

Let me guess, he should write decentralized gopher sites on his lisp machine instead?

 No.925049

Learn Vue.js or something else, React has an stupid license.

 No.925051>>925080 >>925167

No, he can learn general web dev bullshittery (HTML, js, css), but learning a specific web framework oftentimes is pointless, as new fads constantly arise and fade (angular, react, rails, etc), so one is better off learning general purpose stuff and thereafter whatever nonsense your current job requires you to use

>Let me guess, he should write decentralized gopher sites on his lisp machine instead?

No he should learn something that's universal to all computers.

 No.925067>>925080

>>925048

Btw what the hell does gopher, lisp and decentralized software has to do with the book ?

 No.925080>>925145 >>925167

>>925051

These fads are surprisingly similar. I've learned to use a Rust web framework and found myself right at home when I switched over to PHP. I guess it's similar for client side programming.

Little is universal to all computers. Besides that, if you're going for a broad spectum, why limit yourself to computers?

>>925067

Please be less autistic and lurk more.

 No.925125

>>924999 (OP)

Kind of a meme but I do see it's benefits of treating html elements as objects and being able to extend them but the license is dangerously retarded.

>Little is universal to all computers.

All computers are number-crunching electrical machines, which is what the Code book is about (and how those machines can turn electrical input into computation). It's a really good book, but it doesn't have anything to do with OP's question.

 No.925162

Use mithril: https://mithril.js.org/

or Vue if you're a fag.

Otherwise, only bother with frameworks when you're working with something that already uses one.

mithril is basically ncurses for the browser, with the same fundamental rationale: DOM updates are slow as fuck, so you should maintain a virtual DOM and use diffing to optimize your actual updates. This is what makes React good and Mithril does it just fine. All the rest, JSX and such, is just fat.

>as new fads constantly arise and fade

True

>>925080

>Little is universal to all computers.

You can't do more universal than this book.

>if you're going for a broad spectum, why limit yourself to computers?

Please read the book.

>Please be less autistic and lurk more.

I'm not being autistic you are supposing that I should be aware of something that you know, I'm not in your head so please expose what you are meaning.

>>925145

This

>but it doesn't have anything to do with OP's question.

True, my point is that web dev is the most non-useful/helpful software that you can make and I've completely abandoned that part after reading code.

Wrong.

OP inquired about one particular aspect of front-end web deveopment, which is a perfectly valid request. And then you proceed to shit up the thread with unrelated literature about a MUCH broader superset topic. You might as well tell him to study engineering, physics, or philosophy instead. Thread quality shouldn't suffer because of YOUR opinion on a topic.
