Sure. Eventually they'll delete the data, and its backup, and the backup of the backup, and the backup of the backup of the backup that is currently in the possession of the NSA. Will happen eventually because they don't want to run out of storage space, do they?

So much this. Even if some party was actually willing to delete your data, it's basically infeasible technically because of all the different copies in various places that have been made. And 99% of the time they won't even want to delete anything because they know that nobody can verify whether they actually deleted shit they were requested to delete or not. Once your data is out, it's out there.

The new EU regulations won't change much in practice, quite to the contrary - any party who gets certified to """comply""" with the new regulations will be able to use that certification as a shield, saying "fuck off, we're certified so we do nothing wrong" and preventing any possible investigations from even taking place.
