People say the FX processors are so obsolete. Is that really true? How obsolete, and by what? I mean, how big of an upgrade is Ryzen over FX?

 No.908006>>908020

FX is thermally inefficient. some high end FX have TDP over 200W.

 No.908009

fx are just phenom II with more cores.

Im still using my phenom II 955be. no complains.

Pretty huge I hear. I mean, FX I don't think is obsolete in terms of "you are actively being impaired by not upgrading." For goodness sake, there's people who continue to use Core2Duo thinkpads just fine. But at the same time, I think it's a pretty big jump in terms of performance.

I ask because I have a fx 4300 quad core CPU and a geforce gtx 1050ti GPU. I'm seeing some frame rate drop on maximum settings on new games like the division, just a slight drop.

Is my cpu throttling my gpu?

>People say the FX processors are so obsolete.

people who? you meant JEWS. jews say so, they want you to buy newest botnet.

>Is that really true?

No. FX is too fast, will do everything you need.

> I mean, how big of an upgrade is Ryzen over FX?

Ryzen is jewish botnet, it has small additional CPU that your operating system cannot control or disable, this CPU can contact jews and send your data to israel, it can steal your passwords, jews can remotely kill your PC, it also is used for DRM.

>>908006

>FX is thermally inefficient. some high end FX have TDP over 200W.

if need better efficiency, can install AMD K10 CPU's like Phenom II

>>908010

>But at the same time, I think it's a pretty big jump in terms of performance.

performance is useless

you only need performance for tasks that need to be done in realtime like:

-listening to music (can be achieved by 20+ year old CPU)

-watching videos (can be achieved by AMD K10 CPU)

-playing games

other tasks like file compression or video encoding don't need to be in realtime, you can just start it and do other stuff while it encodes. or select faster profile in x264, you can encode 2 times faster but have only 10-15% bigger file

so you only need Ryzen if you are gaymer and play stupid newest jewish games and you are willing to sell your soul and accept jewish botnet inside your PC

>>908014

how do you know if your frame rate is limited by CPU and not GPU?

also if you are stupid gaymer (and you are) you better buy jewish botnet game console and keep it only for games and do other stuff on old non-botnet PC

AMD GPUS!

They have an open source amdgpu driver that's actually pretty solid now, at least for the more recent ones.

FX processors are great for all tasks but playing vidya, that's why children often push for the purchase of Ryzen CPUs.

You should discuss this topic in the sticky, though.

I assume the cpj is throttling gpu bc the cpu is older. Seems logical.

Did it get a lot better recently? because last time I tried it it was horrible compared to the proprietary one.

With AMD the open source driver is actually decent, or so i've heard

It's a driver for the nvidia gpus which cannot do re-clocking and doesn't even provide full 2D features for the 900 series cards and up.

im more interested in knowing if amd drivers can use 2 different GPU.

even more. a new one and and another that have TV-out/multiport

I want multiple monitors and being able to play games on my crt tv

nvidia can't. and multiport/tv-out was removed from all drivers back in 2012 because muh DRM.

I've had an fx processor, but in performance test (3DMark) if you oc it will preform decently, but not efficiently. If you're looking for a budget gaming pc, it's fine, but it's outdated (i.e. motherboards that have this socket lack modern features)

google you cpu and check how much core voltage it can take at max, then take away some of it.

then you increase the clock multiplier and check if system boots and isn't blue screening.

rinse and repeat untill you find a sweetspot.

note. you need better cooling than a stock cooler in order to do OC, else you'd just thermal trottle the shit out of it.

I've might have forgotten some of this, so it might be better to just follow a manual or something.
