Why does it seem that BSD users are all complete faggots? Even more proportionately than many GNU/Linux users? I think it has to do with how institutionally tied to Silicon Valley it is. Anyone have experience with this? I'm proud that I wasn't using FreeBSD when they cucked the CoC in the last couple of months. It's embarrassing to watch as an onlooker.

Well -- it saddens me that people will not give OpenBSD a chance because of the license (and the libertards in the community). It's really great, performance has gotten better and we have a modern compiler in base now. The audio stack is better than the mess Linux has; and I really feel it's the last sane OS.

Yes - it's rather unfortunate that the only use ports have on OpenBSD is compiling it from source. But, I don't really need to customize packages (I have zero bloatware on my personal computer - this means no modern browsers). On a different note - Portmaster is written entirely in shell script, I think Portage should have been the same way (I hate Python).

The GPL is considered harmful:

http://gng.z505.com/cult.htm

http://z505.com/cgi-bin/qkcont/qkcont.cgi?p=Please-Stop-Using-GNU-Licenses

I'm glad other people have been posting this website lately. Stallman claimed OpenBSD "has non-free software" because he failed to understand the ports system - he also was completely ignorant of how Theo has railed against blobs for drivers (they still are fighting against them now, even though Linux has given up - Theo even got an award from the FSF).

>yet another thread devolved into license shitposting

I wish /tech/ was better than this...

Licenses are just tools to be used for a specific purpose, what license I release my code under is simply a reflection of what I intend my code to achieve. GPL LGPL and BSD all have specific uses and there are many people who don't release code under the appropriate license for what they want to achieve. Whats somewhat ironic about the GPL is the fears that Stallman had in regards to the permissive licenses such as BSD ended up not manifesting in reality since the large companies which use OpenBSD and FreeBSD actively contribute back to it while the GPL had to go through 2 revisions since it failed several times to safeguard Linux and other projects from misuse.

Seriously, people on this board put so much effort into shitposting about licenses they are never going to use since few people here actually code.

>>907299

>even Lintards admit the code quality of the GNU utils are dogshit

The only people who think that the code in the Linux kernel is great are those that have never had to work on it or don't know any better. The Linux kernel code is by far the most disgusting code I have ever had to work on. Most codebases I can think of with permissive licenses are better than their respective GPL counterparts, EASTL is better than libC++, LLVM is better than GCC, etc.

Most actual libertarians don't think that, the consequentialist argument for libertarianism is that humans are inherently evil and greedy and therefore its a bad idea to put anyone in a position of inherent power over anyone else. Whats interesting is this position is backed up by studies done over the last decade or so which have proven the adage that power corrupts, being in a position of power literally causes changes in your brain which reduce empathy and for undesirable personality traits such as NPD, BPD, etc to develop.
