We're pretty well connected here. Uni must be connected with at least 1Gb/s link, there is 10Gb/s fiber going directly under it so it's probably connected to that. We have eduroam and additional wifi network provided by telecommunications laboratory which uses 802.11ac routers. There are also several ethernet ports scattered thought the campus, which allow anyone to connect, provided they bring their own cable. Last time I ran speed test on those ports I got 100/100 Mb/s. I probably wouldn't want to run any sort of p2p service on uni's network, it's just too risky and also hogs bandwidth for users who really need it. Regarding other "tech goodies": there are 40+ labs which have a lot of high end gear such as precision measurement equipment (including network analyzers priced at >$160,000, 13 GHz scopes and other RF gear), photolithography machines (we can fabricate semiconductors), electric machinery such as transformers, motors, generators, industrial robots, PLCs... If you ask nicely you can use pretty much anything.
