I already studied the problem and it's impossible because of the sheer amount of patents that exist on this subject, Xerox, HP and other motherfuckers have a monopoly on it and the last people who tried to make something where utterly fucked.
I don't want to say it's fucked but only very small and obscure people can do this without being detected by the others. Xerox and HP are extremely aggressive to any new company who claims that their products last longer and print more.
Printers are the most poozed part of computer science if you want to see the future that you'll get in a few years just look how many DRMs the bigger printers have.
We will have to rely on 3D printers to achieve somewhat of free/libre printer in the future.
