WTF I love Windows Spyware Edition now

This shit has been on BeOS for decades and neither GNUSTEP nor GTK nor QT support it

BeOS may be dead but HAIKU lives

BeOS is overrated.

The perfect OS would be a Microkernel with Plan9s Userspace, NeXTSTEP'S widgets, BeOS's pervasive multitasking, and NT's kernel modules.

 No.899809>>899842

How about monolithic kernel with *BSD's userspace, OS/2's "wigets", DOS' non-existing multitasking, and Linux' kernel modules?

That's like saying "NT5 may be dead but ReactOS lives".

It died right there in that exact pose?

That image is as fascinating as it is terrifying. Also, Haiku is my favorite senseless project.

>monolithic kernel

depreciated. We need a shift towards microkernels for their inherent security benefits

>inb4 muh performance

at this point it's worth it to take a bit of a performance hit for the sake of the inherent security advantages of microkernels

>inb4 "Plan9 kernel is monolithic but still smaller than most microkernels"

That won't last in the long run. By the time Plan9 hypothetically had the same level of hardware support as Linux or FreeBSD, its kernel would be just about as big.

Any perceived kernel security benefits are nullified in the first place by ring -3 hardware botnets.

Btw has Intel manned up to providing honest information and documentation on the ME, or is it still the "what? move along goy, there's nothing here for you to interested in" attitude?

Not the anon you responded too.

> security benefits are nullified in the first place by ring -3 hardware botnets.

And ?

Do you deactivate your firewall because of this ?

Do you stop using HTTPS because of it ?

Your point is fallacious and btw microkernels don't have only security benefits even tho they are very beneficial on that side, it's also about flexibility, can you image how simple it would be to live debug with the hurd ? or make subhurds to contain different services ? updating drivers without having to reboot ?

Of course all of this can be also achieved in the linux kernel the difference is that it becomes easy to do.

Oh well. Also kinda' reminds me of OS 8's Popup Folders.

This shit is none of GUI toolkit's business, it's the Window Manager's job. KDE/Kwin 4 could do it (see pic related), and they plan to bring that back for KDE 5 as well.
