What's OpenWRT?

 No.886861>>886881

I allow my ISP to modify the software on their router at any time they wish. It is installed at my premisses, but I do not own it and it is not part of my network. It's simply an interface between our networks and I trust it just as much (i.e. only with encrypted packages) as I trust the rest of their network.

>hey it's pretty hard for you to stop this one guy abusing you, so you should allow that other guy, that you can very easily stop, to abuse you as well

Was that your best bet at making sense, OP? Why didn't you just write that you hate freedom and hate that others try to get it for themselves? Or just stayed on /g/, which would basically just state the very same thing.

Because I am not doing free sysadmin work for my ISP? Why should I worry about their hardware? It's separated from my network by a firewall, an isolating proxy and my router. What's next? Should I do their accounting, too?

Not even him, but is that really so hard to believe? I'm using OpenWRT, and I sure hope you guys also do this.

>Not having your own router that just forwards outbound traffic to the ISP one

Most data should be encrypted on your computer before it touches the network to begin with. If it isn't, then they could intercept it somewhere else on their end besides the router they provided to you.

The most they could gain from the router alone would be the number of machines on the network, and the times that they're active. That's still pretty good for tracking you, though.
