openmailbox went to shit months ago when they abanonded their original free email supported by user donation thing and replaced it with a commercial service

they gave no warning or notice and shut down their email for a week+, and then came back up with the current bullshit. it's been garbage ever since.

their email hasn't been working right for the past month now for the people who are still on it. they have no support even if you are dumb enough to pay either. use openmailbox at your own peril.

if you need an immediate alternative protonmail is reliable, weather or not you believe in their javascript encryption. no imap unless you pay but your not getting that from openmailbox either.

do not rely on openmailbox for literally anything of any importance and do not give your money to openmailbox. i expect it will disappear completely in a year or so. they've fucked their existing customer base so hard they now have a terrible reputation.

Didn't realise how shit it got because I rarely ever use email for anything. Trying my best to transfer accounts off of it but with confirmation emails timing out before I even receive them it's looking like I might be completely fucked.

i've been using protonmail since openmailbox suicided, it's good enough, webmail or app only though. they have an imap extention out now i think but you've gotta pay. yandex also has free email and imap if you want to give your email to russia instead of jewgle. phone verification isn't required at setup but i was hit with one quickly signing up claiming they noticed something, my own security blah blah blah.

if your going to pay you should pay for your own server though.

I started up a protonmail account around the same time as a backup to my openmailbox account and I've had much better success with them. Just wish they had IMAP.

i can see how imap causes a bunch of server load that webmail doesn't, which is the excuse openmailbox had for jewihg out and destroying themselves, and why protonmail makes you pay.

if you've got 10,000 users all syncing their email to their 10 devices constantly it's going to cause a ton of load. i think the days of free imap from people who don't blatantly datamine and sell your email are over.

as opposed to what. why would you use email at all from a 3rd party provider if you wanted anonymity. their javascript is also open source.

I've been fucked over by it too, pretty sure lost out on a job interview because an email wouldn't fucking send a few months back. I'm moving my stuff over to GMX, seems okay right now and has IMAP support.
