HURD on Debian threw up an error message claiming it needed a "virtual package" that isn't in the repo when I tried to install Firefox.
GuixSD doesn't seem to have an option for HURD.

I would like to see evidence that this would ever happen.

I personally disagree. Perhaps that would be the case if we were to limit it to its current narrow usage in the IME and other embedded purposes, but I think these OSes can be more than that.
