Any ciscofags here? I have a question about CCNA, CCENT, CCAr, etc.

What sort of setup would be best to have at home if I want to start working on Cisco certs? I was thinking of getting like two cheap 5-port Cisco switches and hooking up about 4 CEntOS toasters to them in various different arrangements depending on what aspects of networking I'm trying to master that day. That should work, right?

I have a couple weeks' worth of basic training under my belt from like a year ago, so I don't really know anything but have a general impression of how things work, and this plan seems logical to me. I have a decent amount of bux saved up, but my funds aren't unlimited. If that setup wouldn't be ideal, then what's the best home setup for practicing with Cisco in your spare time?

I am wondering, which of sects is more powerful: Cisco, GNU or Rust?

If you have already booked position and boss tells you that you need the cert then it is a must, if you don't have a preplanned job position then it's less than worthless.

You will read a 500 or 1000 page book in a month or two that will teach you nothing beyond basics, but will make you a good obedient robot for monkey job like sysadmin and shit like that.

Old OLD information in those books that get "updated" only because these companies need to shit out newer books for printing and selling.

I have the option to get it for a pay increase at my current job. And what's wrong with being a sysadmin? Button monkey or not, you still get a reasonable shot at remote working and getting payed more than what you're worth.

CCNA R+S here.

The cert is completely worthless unless you need it for a current job.

>redpill me on cisco

okay, they are another shit company making shit routers. also it's not a real trade if everything you know is based around a single company's product

You mean to say that anyone who hires people who know Cisco requires at least CCNP? Or what would make CCNA "worthless"?

Go for it. If having it means a bigger paycheck then why the fuck not?

If you need an in into the industry then the CCNA whatnot is a very good start.

If you are already in then unless you can get a pay rise out of it then don't bother.

Getting the CCIE is likely worthwhile in most cases but not all.
