So I had this idea for a cyberdeck like in 2020 that might actually be useful in the modern world.

I've been reading a lot, and after rooting my phone and this old original samsung gear I got as a gift I got on the thought of wearable tech.

One of the ironically biggest problems with laptops is their size, especially the fact that screens take up half of it. So my question is...

Can you take an HTC vive or similar VR helmets and modify them to instead display linux or a terminal, link that to a computer as small as the Pyra or Raspberry pi, throw it in your backpack and design a sort of net glove or small touch screen for wireless operation, so you could use the computer in your bag just by flipping down some goggles that otherwise look fashionable as fuck in the city just on your forehead?

The HTC's simple design makes it stand out but not too much, the frontal cameras are a bonus to switch between if you're hanging out in public. The only issue I can foresee is these are gaymer headsets rather than just decent peripherals, the expense withstanding, the requirement list is pretty hefty.

General cyber crossover thread, any cool projects you're working on that are /cyber/ or just any advice you can offer on a project like this or where to start. I've never built small computers and wouldn't know what to read first.

You wouldn't really need a headset. You could do just as well buying cheap little LCD panel and taping it to some goggles and end up with hobo Google glass.

If you're gonna just get an LCD panel you'd be better off taping it to your wrist rather than blocking off your face like that.

The HTC vive has compliments of not only having built in audio but frontal cameras as well to switch between the cyber and real world with decent enough visibility.

I'm talking about modifying high-end devices not being a homeless person, though if you do know how to build a fully functional headset I'd be interested in that sort of thing too, but I don't really want to be building google glass out of coke cans.

Cyberdeck is a big keyboard computer with cassette drives and optical network ports. None of your nu-"Maker" -Pi shit will render crystal clear virtual cyberspace, even fanciest botnetphones. Yet alone projecting terminal in front you your eyes without awareness of around world is fucking stupid, you probably didn't know how to spell "augmented reality", right kid? Now you know what this word means, go google some.

So you want a cyberdeck, right? Get a gaymen or workstation laptop, throw off the fucking display into waste processing bin, swap keyboard to chery switches, add a VR helmet and you would almost look like those glitterbois from fiction written by normalfags like Gibson you like masterbating to, nigger.

Look, cyberpunk aesthetic in the were the dreams of what computers could be by people that didn't know jack shit about computers. The magical aspect of virtual cyberspace through frankenstein radio controls or moonbrains or whatever isn't feasable, but what we do have is a technology capable of putting the screens just before our eyes thus removing the need for a full screen on our machine.

More portable versions or more high-tech versions, even self-contained headset computers that allow the user audio and visual feedback with the computer inside the headset while also having forward facing cameras could very well come into prototyping and be something to think about.

I don't see why you have to be a spastic about it. We're living in the cyberpunk future, it's just not very glamorous, what's wrong with tinkering?
