Your favorite poo in the loo has a good article on microwave, as opposed to heat assisted, magnetic recording that Western Digital will be coming out with soon. Looks like HDDs will be here for awhile longer.

Now just bring back greens and I'll buy one.

You're better off with SSDs if you want green.

 No.805174>>805176 >>805218 >>805230 >>805261

Completely pointless with the slow r/w speeds HDDs have.

 No.805176

>>805174

You can get 48TB of HDDs for the price of 1 4TB SSD. The choice is pretty simple for most people.

Hopefully they'll bring them back before my 2008 Green gives up. Going from 1TB to 16+TB at the same price would be pretty nice.

How's that windows buyer's remorse working out for you without bcache or l2arc, son?

No one needs more than 1TB outside of professional work. You're a data hoarder who can't throw anything away.

It's all about $/TB, boy.

I'm not against solid state drives. My main drive is NVME. You're blowing money if you get a big solid state drive and stick media on there. Other than playing video games and editing raw video, there really isn't much else than takes advantage of ssd speeds.

Anyone who watches movies/anime and doesn't want to re-download gigabytes of shit on a slow ass torrent stream every time you want to watch something.

 No.805637>>808237

This. I easily had a terabyte of anime and wanted more. I easily had 400gb of music. I easily have 100gb movies and that's like 20 of them. 3TB should be the new standard on all PCs. Makes all p2p networks more viable as well.

Underrated.

Why would anyone who watches movies have to redownload anything when I want to watch something?

Did you try growing up and not watching shitty cartoon shows?

 No.808260

>>805239

Contrary to popular belief things do disappear without a trace from the Internet. Plenty of old games I used to play 10, 15, 20 years ago are nowhere to be found or only have shitty versions (with cut content and so on) available.

Same with old and non-mainstream films or shows. No, you can't find everything on socialisttoobe, their content flagging takes down shit instead of monetising it.

The situation with old drivers or old versions of programs necessary for older OSes you might want to run in a VM is even worse. Much, much worse.
