This. The entire plot of TFA was focused on undoing all of the actions and progress that were made in the original trilogy. This is why they had the First Ordah use an galactic-scale Death-Star-style doomsday device to annihilate the new seat of government; they needed to establish the bad guys as the galactic rulers again, and they needed to set up the not-Rebellion as the new Rebellion.
Disney and JJ forced a return to the original oppressed-versus-oppressor formula both because they lack the creative vision to imagine Star Wars without an underdog rebellion fighting off an all-encompassing Nazi-inspired regime, and because they need to continue to push this imagery for their own political purposes (see >>2251).
