it was a bit disappointing tbh. at the same time, it was totally in the obi-wan style of fucking shit up with just one swing.

5/10 wish it had lasted longer and stayed more faithful to the comic.

Expanded universe did it better , like everything else. Nothing new or interesting during the fight just a retelling of older material, though Maul becomes a weaker character instead of just rage, like at the end he asks a stupid question. If I had to say something nice about it, I guess the setting was good, though it wasn't really used.

Here's a WEBM of it.

One thing I don't get at all is where did Obi-Wan hit him? At first I thought he was cut down the top but he has no wounds there, where's the lightsaber wound on his body?

>bring Darth Maul back from the dead just to have him be killed by the same guy already killed him

>effectively making his rebirth pointless and literally nothing more than a way for them to avoid creating new characters and doing anything original

BRAVO, DISNEY!

I'm assuming it's down his chest

>>1686

normally i'd jump on that train as well, but old wounds predates disney. the only thing original here is ezra, the lack of crazy cybernetic legs, overgrown horns and uncle owen.

Maul's story went on a little long. I prefer Obi-Wan getting the kill shot than any of the Jedi originating in the cartoons, though I guess they missed a chance for a Vader duel inspired by another good comic.

I hope Sam Witwier gets some Sheev time considering that they renewed this show for a 4th season.

IIRC they avoided Vader vs. Maul because they thought that was too much fanservice

Or to original, its pretty much verbatim from the Expanded Universe comics. They're just lazy in the stories they create or Disney doesn't leave any freedom, probably that one.

I'm not seeing it though, with a strike like that how could it not hit his shoulder or head or take off an arm, we never see the wound either?

 No.1693

"Too much fanservice" strikes me as specious considering how many nostalgic callbacks Rebels has used. I suppose they might be trying to take things more in their own direction as the series goes on, but I don't think Rebels is meant to last indefinitely like Clone Wars.

When you see Obi-Wan cradling his body there's smoke coming from his chest. As for why we can't see it, because Disney

The most impressive thing about this is that Disney managed to insert more cringeworthy chosen one foreshadowing than anything in the prequels. It's so weird to see Darth Maul being whimsical like that.

Killing him off in TPM was probably the biggest missed opportunity of the prequels and Lucas must have realised that. He was a visually striking, serious character who needed no CGI and was entirely real. It also helped that he was the movie's most marketable character and sold out every action figure and lightsaber toy related to him at the time.

He could have easily been the face of the prequels just like Vader had been in the originals, but every attempt at bringing him back into the story has lead to disappointment. Even Old Wounds made his death unintentionally hilarious.

 No.1698

Qui-Gon lays in Obi-Wan's arms, slain by Darth Maul. He tells his padawan to train Anakin because he is the chosen one.

Maul lays in Obi-Wan's arms, killed (again) by his old foe. He asks if the chosen one truly exists and dies happy, knowing the Sith that betrayed him will be destroyed once and for all.

That was decent pottery

He pretty much vivisected him.

Old Wounds was Star Wars tales, it wasn't anymore canon than Skippy the Jedi Droid.

>What do you have???

"Well, I got my own two legs. Oh, and my ol' bait & tackle, if you know what I mean. Plus, I can poop like a normal person. Yep, I bet you miss the satisfactory feeling of a good BM. Just how do you poop in that walking tin can of yours, Mauley?"

chest kill confirmed

>Maul charges, delivering two attacks that Kenobi blocks, then goes to stun his opponent with a blow from his hilt. It’s the same move he used on Qui-Gon in The Phantom Menace, but it doesn’t work here. Whether it’s because he’s seen it before, or he’s a better sword fighter now, or both, Kenobi slices through the hilt --- and Maul’s chest.
