The rest of the day was similarly routine. Verbal taunts in the hallway and petty irritation in class. Today Lex opted to sarcastically compliment his haircut and flick tiny, crumpled up balls of paper at him in class. At lunch, as usual, Lex implied that he should pay for Lex's lunch if he knew what was good for him. As usual the ultimatum was ignored with no more retaliation than a Hertz's Donut. At the end of the day he was stuck walking home with Lex. It was easy to get to school before Lex; Lex liked to sleep in. But school was let out at the same time for everyone. His pride prevented him from running away or taking a circuitous route to avoid Lex so he was stuck a final course of Lex's idiocy. Lex always seemed to put most of this effort into this period; it was like Lex never wanted their walk to end.

Lately Lex had started to spontaneously yell "Let's wrestle, faggot!" and try to initiate a grapple. He would studiously ignore Lex's provocations, sometimes even letting Lex take him to the ground without reacting. This seemed to be the most effective tactic. Lex would call him a fag and insult him for not being willing to fight, but the lack of response left Lex with little to do except bluster and maybe hold him on the ground a bit. But her casual demeanor and modest outfit belied the terrible sense of invisible power she projected. The two always loudly proclaimed how much they hated each other but in practice were as thick as thieves. The duo was in good form today as they teamed up to aggressively try to recruit Lex into the "Meido Club". He was a bit frazzled by their ability seemingly pop out of thin air extolling the virtues of housekeeping. More disturbing was the rather shy Hellhound from the Student Christian Union who gave Lex a booklet entitled "Controlling the Urge to Rape: Respecting Your Future Husband's Boundaries" while assuring Lex that it had helped her enormously. But most of the girls just wanted to offer to answer any questions Lex might have about being a monster.

At lunch Lex hugged herself and sheepishly asked him if he could buy her lunch. It turned out that she really didn't have any money and, shocked, he numbly paid for the two of them. Stockings?" and had quickly set about cobbling together prototype "Wing Cozies". His father had insisted that Lex stay for dinner while the cold weather clothing was assembled. For her part his little sister was absolutely enchanted with Lex's monster parts and had to be dissuaded from grabbing Lex's tail multiple times.

Lex was a surprisingly good guest. She dropped the smirk and listened politely to his little sister's stories about her day at school and his father's commentary on the news of the day. She didn't say much herself but asked enough questions to express interest. When his mother brought in her sewing kit Lex patiently stood and let her experiment with different ways of insulating Lex's wings while preserving their range of motion. He on the other hand was on edge the whole time. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Lex opened up a little more at dinner. The smirk returned as she related some of their interactions with the Kikimora and Shoggoth duo. She elicited several laughs by comically exaggerating, generally at his expense. His little sister particularly liked the (unfortunately accurate) tale of his "girlish scream" upon discovering that his desk was actually the polymorphed Shoggoth.
